GameTrailers has an exclusive debut of the Quake Live trailer, offering the first official, public glimpse of id Software's free FPS. Essentially Quake 3 resurrected from the grave in an attempt to bring fast-paced action shooters to a new generation, Quake Live is currently in closed beta as the game is tweaked for its release, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later.

While we still haven't got any word on how the server side is going to be set up we're hoping it'll continue in the usual Quake tradition of at least having an option to create permanent servers for local play - but stay tuned.

You can stream the trailer directly in the comments.

That bomb thing at the end was a feature in Team Arena wasn't it? I hope Team Arena is just a game variable & not replacing standard CTF.

Also has anyone heard if it still supports user created maps?

Stat Tracking looks sweet :)

Guv, I believe that id Software will hold competitions for map making and the best maps will be inserted in the game from time to time.

The normal customizing will not be available as it used to be in Q3

Kind of looking forward to this, after trying out the Legions: Fallen Empire (or whatever it is called) on instantaction.com I'm a believer. All it needs is a decent match making service/server browser so you can play on/vs local gamers/servers.

Any idea if GSPs/ISPs can host dedicated servers for this sort of game, trog?

I can't f***ing wait. Not enough death match these days and q3a was definatly the best for DM.

The dynamic nature of the entire thing will allow iD to continuously put in competitions, vary up the stats etc. Carmacks interview that I posted about covers heaps of information regarding QuakeLive

I want a Quake 3 remake, not a Quake 3 revival.

or we could all just keep playing quake3?

wish it'd go back to osp 1.3 which was just perfect imo. cpma is lame

Thats a good point, I wonder if id looked at OSP on how they used server options & commands etc. Not to mention the ton of bugs they fixed.

Nice if they integrated Rocket Arena as a "Mode" selection choice also

it's quake3, so what?? I was so over this game like 8 years ago.. Why would I get into it now?? oh it's in a browser, whoopdeedoo!

No doubt I'll give it ago and see what all the hype is all about but then I'll go back to TF2 and the like...

this is obviously aimed at those of us that enjoyed q3, would love to play it again online against others, without having to patch up and find decent servers and then have awesome stats generated detailing how good we are:

i cant wait for it:

At first I was a bit wtf on the idea, but after looking at it I reckon it could be pretty decent. Looking forward to it :)

Sounds great. I hope people take this up, because it would be great to have a large competitive community that didn't revolve around the team-based/class-based/wait-to-respawn gameplay the industry/gamers have been infatuated with for the past 8 years.

Yea the game itself isn't what's innovative or "new", its the model on how the game runs & works online is.

Plus the matchmaking tool, people might get into the 1v1 game mode which is a good competitive game, as you cant really get into these days with the hardcore playing nothing but pro-q3dm6 over, & over, & over again
