Is it just me, or does all streaming video SUCK?!
It just starts to play...plays like 2 secs....and then plays 2 secs....every 5 seconds all jumpy. My case in point is Terminator Salvation Preview (Quicktime) And then like a million other things? Is there some setting I am compeltely missing that lets the thing buffer and then only play when its not going to go jumpy? I have ADSL 2+ so speed on my end shouldnt be a problem! I realise you can probably download the thing and watch it (which is what i normally do anyway) however my gf doesn't quite know how to do all that. |

yeah but 9 times outta 10 (it seems, unless its like utube or something, acutally it seems mainly quicktime) it either doesn't show the progress, or stops loading :|

It's all dependent on the player the site uses and your connection speed to them. From home, I rarely have buffering issues with youtube or anything we host here on AusGamers. Maybe you just need a better ISP/Plan.
Also, Yahoo is often balls for movies. Try http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/16/must-watch-first-terminator-salvation-teaser-trailer/ |

Im with Iinet, ADSL2+, so like I said speed shouldn't really be a problem, unless my line is dropping packets or my router is dropping packets (im plugged in via ethernet)

It's probably not on your end. If the server is s***, the speed will be s***.
I love streaming movies (when they work, which is most of the time for me), because I don't have to bother cluttering up my desktop with saved files or anything. |

youtube it then?
quicktime can suck because it's so bloated as far as content goes, and they don't nearly have a big enough pipe to provide for the millions of peeps who hit it every minute to keep everyone happy. it wouldn't surprise me if Joe Public in the states gets priority traffic to the vid over a few hundred here in Aus because.... well, franky - we're a drop in thier ocean as far as proffits from this venture is concerned. last edited by koopz at 22:52:13 17/Jul/08 |

Or some sites that load the whole thing into cache, then when you skip back load the whole thing again, yeah thats smart.

is everyone still writing their own video streaming flash apps or somethin
cause the number of ones i've come across lately that don't buffer while paused... and don't allow relatively painless rewind and fast forward... is surprising like that hollowmen site or the new joss whedon one thats currently getting hammered by all the joss fans. professor terrible or whatever |

I couldn't even get it to load more than half way at all, even after leaving it apparently buffering for more than 45 minutes. So I still haven't even seen it. |

I've found streaming on Optus isn't possible, but on iiNet it's fine. The connection is still fast - I can pull >700KB/s from Ausgamers, but you can't stream properly.

Must be a quicktime thing. Ill just have to deal with it I guess, just frustrating that in this day an age that they still can't get such a simple thing right.
I can usually stream Youtube etc (at least it shows the progress etc), I don't really stream all that much anyway now days. |

I stream most things without a problem. I have around 600kb/s max connection, it may be better now I haven't tested it for a while.
Also check your pm. |

That Terminator trailer worked fine for me and I'm on Optus. Most times streaming stuff works for me and occasionally it does stupid stuff like play a few secs and then do nothing, not even cache and start playing again.
