Joss Whedon is doing something unusual, and releasing an internet mini-series by the name of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" this week. Here's a little bit of info:

Why, Joss? Why? Why now, why free, why us?

Once upon a time, all the writers in the forest got very mad with the Forest Kings and declared a work-stoppage. The forest creatures were all sad; the mushrooms did not dance, the elderberries gave no juice for the festival wines, and the Teamsters were kinda pissed. (They were very polite about it, though.) During this work-stoppage, many writers tried to form partnerships for outside funding to create new work that circumvented the Forest King system.

Frustrated with the lack of movement on that front, I finally decided to do something very ambitious, very exciting, very mid-life-crisisy. Aided only by everyone I had worked with, was related to or had ever met, I single-handedly created this unique little epic. A supervillain musical, of which, as we all know, there are far too few.

The idea was to make it on the fly, on the cheap – but to make it. To turn out a really thrilling, professionalish piece of entertainment specifically for the internet. To show how much could be done with very little. To show the world there is another way. To give the public (and in particular you guys) something for all your support and patience. And to make a lot of silly jokes. Actually, that sentence probably should have come first.

Here's a teaser:

Looking forward to this but might just watch the first one then decided whether to wait until it's all available in a HD format before checking out the rest. NPH!

Well, he says on the site that it'll only be available for one week, then it'll be taken down. No word on whether it'll be re-released in other formats.

2) What happens when it goes away? Does it go to a happy farm for always like Fluffy did when mommy was crying and the neighbor kept washing his fender?

No, Dr horrible will live on. We intend to make it available for download soon after it’s published. This would be for a nominal fee, which we’re hoping people will embrace instead of getting all piratey. We have big dreams, people, and one of them is paying our crew.

And somewhat later, we will put the complete short epic out on DVD – with the finest and bravest extras in all the land. We’ll go into greater detail about that at Comiccon, but we’re changing the face of Show Friendliness a second time with that crazy DVD.

If this is decent and the fee is nominal - not 90% of a retail DVD - I will buy into this mad scheme.

It's the Internet, nothing goes away while there's still interest. You just have to know where to look.

f***ing pack of c***s.

Many fans around the world have been disappointed to discover the feared message “not available outside the USA” but rest assured the problem is being addressed and we’ll report back as soon as we’re aware of the details.

Never fear, Doctor Horrible will save the day…..err……ahh….. Captain Hammer will save the day? …. well, rest assured, someone will!

The team behind Dr Horrible are really sorry about the problems and want to assure you that they really are working hard to get it all sorted out. The best news is, it’s worth the wait!

It's fixed now.

Very random indeed. I had a laugh or two, will watch the other 2 episodes when they are released.

I went to watch this not knowing who Joss Whedon was and therefore, expecting it to be tripe. However, it was awesome. I'm craving Act III now, lucky it's out tomorrow.

Doesn't quite measure up to Firefly... but not bad none the less.

For what it was - a non-massive studio funded effort - it was great. I don't remember Felicia Day from her stint in Buffy but it was interesting to see her in something outside of "The Guild".

The ending sucked, it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the show. Joss Whendon does seem to have a tendency to drop in unnecessary drama though so I guess it was no big surprise.

The first 2 acts were great though.

i enjoyed this a lot. it's been a long time since i've enjoyed a musical. Guess it helped that it was short. don't know why people are complaining about the ending.
