Steams is awesome and all but it really needs a scheduler. Anyone know if there are any torrents of game back ups?
I've already bought the games, I just need to download them. |

I assume you are looking to download the content during an offpeak download period?
Have you considered just running the steam client as a scheduled task that ends when the offpeak period ends? For example, it starts up at 1 am, then stops after 6 hours? |

Yeah I'm trying to download the games on offpeak period. I've tried scheduling the task but I couldn't find a way to close steam. I've turned scheduling a shutdown but that didn't work for some reason.

this is a great idea. the torrent would need to be remade after bugfixes/addons/etc come along, but it's far better that watching it dl at full speed than the dribble I usually get from Steam servers
what games do you need btw? btw - I'm pretty sure Hermitech still has his insanely large Steam folder @ work. do you lan with peeps that you can just copy off? |

I've turned scheduling a shutdown but that didn't work for some reason. To close it just right click the icon in the systray and hit "exit" and it will shut down. Second the suggestion to just copy someone else's folder. If you're not w/ an ISP with unmetered Steam access it'll be painful! |

How long is your offpeak? windows task scheduler lets you kill an app after it has run for a certain time period, but its a little inflexible.

I download off steam at 1.1mb/s
torrents on the other hand are like 200-400kb/s, steam works a treat. |

The download window is at a very odd time for me, from 4am - 9a. (TPG adsl1 if you're wondering). Speed from steam is not a problem, I get 150kb/s which is my maximum speed. I haven't lanned in ages.
Koopz I want Half life 2, ep 1, ep 2, lost coast, portal, peggle extreme. I just wish steam had a scheduler built in with it. |

ring around computer stores to see if they keep a massive steam cache?
I dunno about the legalities of charging to provide data in this way though. it's not something they'd advertise I guess :/ I usually just backup peoples entire hard drives and then they can just sign into Steam, but if their hard drive gets properly toasted I we have a massive steam folder on hand. dunno if we have ep 1/2 or lost coast though. how big is it anyway? |

+1 vote for an overhaul of steam.
Yep, a scheduler would be good but for the love of god, allow the user to say what content server they want to DL from as well. Apparently Boba has Uber influence with Steam, so get him on it. |
