Electronic Arts today announced a special edition release of Spore that will be made available when the title releases September 4th here in Australia. Spore Galactic Edition will come with everything you could want from a Spore SE package and includes:

"the 'Making of Spore' DVD, “How to Build a Better Being” DVD from the National Geographic Channel, (NGC) ‘The Art of Spore’ hardback mini-book, a fold-out Spore poster, and a premium 100-page Galactic Handbook."

It's not sure yet whether this will be part of some pre-order campaign, first in bets dressed or simply more expensive.

How about they focus on first releasing the game on time without yet-another-delay, then think about special editions :)

Special Editions mean they can make an extra $10/unit for each copy the sell though. It's less surprising when they get away with it with huge brands like GTA but it seems weird when they do it for an untested/untried title. I guess for Spore because it has so much hype out there people'll be queuing up to buy it anyway.

Am I the only one that thinks these special edition packs are not special at all? On the other hand Windwaker special edition was something to talk about.

The only redeeming item in this pack is the National Geographic made DVD.
