Flexing their blossoming relationship, Activision and Blizzard have announced a new joint effort in the form of a new downloadable track for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock.

Guitar Heroes on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be able to download the "I am Murloc" track from June 27 (presumably US time). Sorry PS2 and Wii owners, no DLC for you.
World of Warcraft players will remember the hit “I am Murloc” as the tongue-in-cheek tribute to the beloved race of fish-people by Blizzard Entertainment’s house band, Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain. The thrash metal-style song debuted to delighted attendees at Blizzard Entertainment’s BlizzCon™ 2005 gaming convention in Anaheim, CA.
For those that missed it, you can watch the I am Murloc music video here in the AusGamers files library. Check out the official press release for the particulars.

I dunno, all the preview stuff I've read so far has failed to impress me. Looks like they're throwing extra gimmicks into the game for the sake of having extra gimmicks. Their drum set looks flimsy as too, plenty of people have managed to smash/crack/break Rock Band drum sets and the GH4 one looks way more flimsy, so I don't like its chances.

Who knows, maybe it'll all change before it comes out and they'll pull something magic out of the bag and it'll be amazing, but everything so far I've seen or read has just confirmed to me that Harmonix is the superior developer and Rock Band is the superior product.

How did you import it, and for which platform?

have you read anything other than the announcement of GH4? their drums look far superior to rock bands. Padded drums so there's less plastic banging, velocity sensitive (the harder you hit them, the louder the sound) not to mention drums and cymbals.

Also from all reviews I read and watched of rock band, most made mention of the quality of the guitars in rock band not being up to the standard of the GH ones.

PS3, its region free for games, just bought it off a US supplier on ebay.

Yeah, I've read about the velocity sensing and all that, but it just sounds like gimmicks to me. Either gimmicks, or over complication. Trust me, the drums in Rock Band are hard enough without all this extra s*** to worry about, I'm not sure making it more complicated is the formula to making it more fun. And the cymbals in the GH4 drums aren't separate pads, they're both the same pad, its just a gimmicky way to represent the forth pad. And they're held up by flimsy little sticks which are going to snap sooooooo easily when people start bashing away. Thats what I meant when I said the GH4 drums look flimsy, the little sticks holding the cymbals and the frame itself doesn't look too sturdy.

Activating overdrive or star power or whatever they want to call it doesn't sound as much fun on GH4 either, you just hit both cymbals at once to activate it instead of getting to do the cool free-form drum fills in Rock Band.

As for the guitar, I dunno, they all got their pros and cons, I think overall I like the rock band one better, but the strum bar does take a bit of getting used to, it doesn't give you as much solid feedback as the guitar hero ones too, but at the same time, it doesn't make loud annoying clicking noises.

At the end of the day, they can throw as many gimmicks on their plastic instruments as they can, but thats not going to be what makes the game fun. Lots and lots of well charted music is what makes the game fun, and the Activision/Neversoft team that made GH3 have yet to prove they're capable of that. Harmonix have proven themselves time and time again, so they have my loyalty for the moment, the Guitar Hero team has yet to earn my loyalty. Over complicating a winning formula and being bastards about compatibility of peripherals between games is not doing a lot to endear them to me so far.

The quality of the peripherals has nothing to do with harmonix vx neversoft and everything to do with red octane vs EA. Red octane has been making the GH instruments since day one and they've proved to me that they're willing and able to improve and perfect their construction. The GH3 (360) controller feels a lot better than the GH2 one, the buttons are firmed and don't clack like the old ones.

I don't see any of those features related to the drums as being gimmicky, simply having the cymbals raised alone should make the experience feel a lot more fun and immersive. Regardless, the simple fact that Rock Band STILL isn't out here and it's inflated price pretty much is the last nail in the coffin for me. I was excited about it when it was first announced\came out in the US, but my enthusiasm has waned. Without joking it's very likely that GHWT will be out here before Rock Band, while harmonix is on the verge of announcing Rock Band 2. f*** That.

I found nothing wrong with the music charting in GH3, it felt different to GH1/2 but that was a good thing. It threw much more complicated finger placements than previously which was an extra challenge for those already adept at GH, while making the time window of button pressing a bit more lenient to allow noobs to get into it easier.

I found GH3 more fun than GH2.

That is all.

I went back to GH2 after GH3 and found GH2 far more fun. Each to their own I guess. GH2 just felt more like you were actually 'playing' the song, whereas GH3 felt like they'd thrown extra random s*** in there to make it arbitrarily harder, it felt overcharted to me. Bass also seemed way more fun in GH2 than in GH3 imo.

Rock Band STILL isn't out here and it's inflated price pretty much is the last nail in the coffin for me.

Do you honestly think GH4 is going to be any cheaper when it comes out here?

Problem I got with GH3 is that there needs to be a level between Medium & Hard where they either speed it up or add the orange button but not both. I've got 5 stars for every song on Medium but just can't jump to Hard difficulty.

Or I suck..
