WTF @ 3.

How can they charge you for paying your bill at a Post Office?
WHY IS THERE A SURCHARGE, I"M PAYING MY BILL FFS!!!!!

Then they always remind you that if your payments are late, there's more charges. But they only give you just over a week from when the bill lands in you letter box.
Not that it's a problem for me but come on....1 week notice. BAH!

Then I get a notice saying that there will be another surcharge for sending me bills on PAPER. WHAT THE f***.

Here's the funny part, they sent me like pages of promotions about random s*** AND "eBilling"......
I thought they were trying to cut back on paper use to "save the environment" but they just blatently send me more USELESS s*** I don't need.

So, they spam me with paper.
Then charge me for it.
Then I go to pay for those charges and they charge me again for paying it.

What the f*** is going on.

Because it costs them more to offer that billing option.

Not unreasonable if they offer adequate e-billing.

They're using the resources now to educate so they can save more in the long run.

*sigh*

I usually pay everything via net but I was just shocked to see a surcharge on my next bill.

When every other billed I payed that day @ the PO didn't incur a surcharge =\

And FYI, I had to pay @ the PO cause the net was out.....wauu suprise?

It's easy enough for people like us to make the transition to no paper bills.

But what of the older peps who aren't so tech savy nor have the funds for a PC and the on going cost of internet and mantainance.

Meh, I just think it's f***ed up how they can charge for something, every other company is offering for free.

And I think it's pretty funny a mobile phone company trying to be so green.

The resources it takes to make a phone is huge. The minerals and materials required. The mining they have to do to obtain them.

Hypocrites.

Still doesn't stop the other companies from offering it for free?

Something about customer service I think.
Where the f*** has that gone.....looks like it ended up in India.

clearly money they spend on sending you bills is money they can't spend on infrastructure.

(heh, they wouldn't do that anyway)

totally agree with sentiment of OP
f*** them off imo, they are total c***s. I've been threatening to dump them for over a year now - every time my 3 bill arrives at the office I bitch about them out loud to whichever poor c*** happens to be nearby (usually blahnana, trog or boba), and then do nothing constructive about it

WHY!>>?!>!

Ah yes, 3. The company that offers 1GB mobile broadband for $15, then $100 for every GB you go over .. without offering a shaping option if you wanted to do the right thing (not go over the limit) with a safety net - something useful for people who aren't too tech/net savvy.

Sure most other wireless broadband companies (except a handful of iBurst and other resellers) have similar excess charges, but they don't try to attract you with such a cheap-sounding plan that seems out of place with the excess charge in mind.

i'm guessing you don't "call someone who cares" because you have no reception in the office.

they also charge you probably more than that if you roam to a 2G network if you lose coverage (which you will)

Yep, $1650 per GB!

Not that you could accidentally hit a GB at such a slow speed, but every MB you consume is pure damage.

To top it off the post office makes heaps out of the interest by holding on to your bill money for as long as possible after you pay it.

I think it's fair having a surcharge for Post Office payments as other people have stated they have to pay the Post Office for that service.

What I think stinks though is charging people for paper bills. I personally much prefer e-bills but as menstruating OP said old people and technospazzes should not have to pay for something that has been for a long time a part of the service. Same with using a person at the bank. The fair thing to do would be to reduce the bill of people who use e-bills...though I realise that is never going to happen.

And I think it's pretty funny a mobile phone company trying to be so green.

The resources it takes to make a phone is huge. The minerals and materials required. The mining they have to do to obtain them.

That's a dumbass attitude....mobile phones are a part of life these days. We can either have them with a bajillion damage or we could have them with a bajillion minus one damage...I'd prefer the latter. Whilst I recognise that companies are not doign e-bills etc... to save the environment it is simply to increase profit, I still think it is a bit of a win-win situation...essentially using resources more efficiently...so it's a good thing.

And the uninformed post of the thread goes to!

If you'd actually looked at any of 3's Mobile Broadband modems, you'd know that roaming is disabled by default. You have to manually enable it (and in most cases get a warning about the charges) before the modems will connect to a 2G network.

i find it hard to believe that paper bills are even close to being a significant factor in the waste of paper/harm on environment

it's like 2 pages max

where in my post did i say roaming was enabled by default? they have something like 60% coverage of the australian population, so basically only capital cities. if you travel you will need to roam.

also, suck my balls.

When you consider 2 pieces of paper, envelope and the resources used to deliver said letter, then land fill, then multiply by (guessing here) 15,000,000 people of bill paying age in Australia then multiply by (again guessing) 5 bills per person then multiply by 12 months a year (that wasn't a guess...I know it for fact)...that makes 1.8 billion pieces of paper, 900 million envelopes, 900 million mail deliveries and landfill space for those 2.7 billion pieces of rubbish.

There's also factors I haven't included such as toner, the fact that a lot of bills are more than two pages, other marketing crap that comes with bills (although some of it may still be sent anyway) etc...

Then if you consider 6 billion people in the world or whatever there is...I think there is room for a very significant environmental saving.

I bet somewhere inside your contract (that you read, signed and agreed to) will be a clause about a surcharge/fee if you paid at the post office.

HOW DARE THEY!

I've had my current contract with 3 for about 2 years (that reminds me i goto get a new phone for free) and i get the paper bills, but I've always just had them automatically take the money out of my account.
I've never had to worry about a phone bill or paying it in 2 years, i've never been charged more than my $29 cap for anything, except this one time when i went 30c over, and this month because I bloody voted for shift-1 which is probably going to cost eleventy billion dollars ! :D

I think if you direct debit they love u long time and don't charge you s***... do that imo.
