im about to get a new 25.5 inch widescreen samsung and im just wondering if it would be a good idea to get a new graphic card at the same time with it, or would it probably run close to the same when im playing tf2 on widescreen thanks in advance.!~

If you want to run TF2 (or any game) in full res... you're going to need a top graphics card.

Well just saw one listed at Umart.
For that res, if you want to run anything with detail you will need a better video card. That said, you can get away with a 8800GT on a 22" LCD quite easily and they're cheap as chips. last edited by step at 14:44:36 25/Jun/08 |

If you want to run TF2 (or any game) in full res... you're going to need a top graphics card. I run TF2 on full settings (apart from AA which is only at 2x) at 1680x1050 on a 3 year old 7800GTX 256MB. Framerate is fine. You really don't need that much power for TF2. |

yeh run TF 2 on 1900x1200 on xps 1710 laptop using geforce 7950GTX and i get decent FPS on TF2 only when i have the power supply plugged in :)
I have Dell 27" monitor.... love it... perfect size..... not to big for how close you are actually to the monitor.. |

If you do consider upgrading the video card, get yourself a ATI 4850.
They can be had for as little as $225 from Price Point Computers or ITSdirect. The 4850's run rings around an 8800GT, and they cost only about $10 dollars more. Also you can Crossfire two of them together at a later date, if you want to without having to buy an Nforce board. last edited by Lynx at 15:16:19 25/Jun/08 |

Also, they cost only about $10 dollars moreHow is that relevant when he already has the 8800gt? |

Im going to go bigger then 22inch btw atm im looking at 25.5 inch. but im just not sure if the screen will be able to handle heavy gaming. i don't wanna end up getting bleeding and dead pixels but the one im looking at is samsung so i doubt it would be dodgy.

Computer Alliance have the Viewsonic 28" ones for $639 which is a f***ing bargain.
Lovely monitor and after gaming on it for ages there's no way I could go lower than that size. Well I could but I wouldn't be happy! |

cant fail with a 9600gt for tf2.
2048x1536 at full detail getting ~100fps ftw. but my q9300 (2.50 x4) helps in this regard. |

Response time in LCDs isn't an issue anymore, you've just got to look at colour reproduction and black levels.

ok well this is the non link to it. [not umart]. the only problem i don't like with it is the speakers. :(
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/features.do?group=computersperipherals&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS26KIEEFV/XAA but in your opinion would that be a good gaming screen or >????? |

Response time in LCDs isn't an issue anymore,Lag is an issue though. I have the samsung you listed, it has about 20ms of input lag, but i dont really notice it, the only thing you might notice is the gamma shift that comes from it being a tn panel, i.e. screen is darker at the top than the bottom. |

Samsung screens rock EXTREMELY hard for monitors
The woman has a 22" an plays games nicely I have the Samsung 30" as well without any ghosting issues I did notice with my old ASUS 22" I play a lot on the 46" Samsung as well (Assasins Credd & Grid() an they run pretty f***ing sweet as well. Truth be told, if I'd realised how awesome the 46" was, I wouldn't have bothered with the 30 to begin with (which is on my main gaming rig up in my bedroom. |

I said it has 20ms of input lag which is actually very low, compare it to something like a dell which is up to 80ms, and the best you will get which is about 10 or so.

rofl - this is like a video card thread
dude your monitor aint gunna improve / decrease your performance. Sure depending on your res that you run it will change your performance, but reponse time on the monitors these days is a non issue. Just get the Samsung - u will be happy with it. |

those samsung 30" + would just be tvs tho? Mooby - Nope, the 30 is an actual monitor that does 2550 x 1600 and seriously kicks arse on my gaming rig =, The 46" is a TV first however it also cains very hard playing Grid, Assasins Creed, CoD4 etc @ 1920 x 1080 I use a 9800GX2 on the 30" cause of the higher res (get an avg 90fps in CoD4 idle an drops to 50 on avg during a serious fire fight) an an 8800GTX on the 46". No ghosting whatsoever |

If you really wanted performance in a monitor, you would use a CRT... Let the fight begin.
