old mate at work was just telling me about this game:

anyone played it?

sounds pretty awesome, im going to see if i can track it down and give it a bash:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_More_Heroes_%28video_game%29

from above

Throughout the game, the player controls the character Travis Touchdown. The game has a free roaming world,[5] allowing Travis to move around on foot or on his motorcycle, the "Schpeltiger".[6] Gameplay is open-ended, with the concession that the player must kill the top ten assassins in order to make the storyline progress. There are numerous part time job side quests to earn money which can be spent on weapons, training sessions, clothes and video tapes.

Control is handled through the Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment, with the Remote controlling his weapon, the beam katana, and the Nunchuk moving Travis. Most attacks are performed using the "A" button, with certain other moves, including the "death blow" and sword lock struggles, executed by following on-screen instructions. Further, since the beam katanas run on batteries, they must be charged from time to time by pressing the "1" button on the remote and shaking it.[7] The beam katana can also be upgraded and replaced throughout the game by visiting Dr. Naomi. While the katana does not follow the exact position of the remote, it is able to distinguish between a "high" and "low" position which varies the character stance and the attacks done. In addition to attacks with the beam katana Travis can kick and punch, and when enemies are stunned he can throw them with a number of professional wrestling maneuvers, done by manipulating both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

I've heard it being compared to metriod prime games. The boss fights are what make the game, except getting to the boss is boring.

If you have money to blow, get it. Otherwise get Okami.

Compared to Metroid Prime? From what I've seen, that's like apples and oranges.

I meant the whole getting to the boss thing. Metriod games would be s*** without the bosses.

I hired it out for 3 days and enjoyed it while I had it.. I think I'd be tempted to hire it out a second time when it hits weekly just to finish it off without getting 100% through it or anything..

the mini-games between stages keep it being kind of fun, but yeah most of the pre-boss times are quite linear and dull.. boss fights were kind of amusing though

If you've got the cash to burn I'd say go for it

It was fun, I liked how the voice actors/translators took the mickey out of the game in so many places. I imported the ntsc version, not sure what differences there are censorship wise.

I guess if you just take any of the main parts of the game, it doesn't stack up to bigger budget titles, but overall I found it quite appealing, and possessive of some neat touches.

i got the pal version (couldnt get the ntsc version to work)

sword play is fun (so far)

the poor old wii's lack of processing power is shown up pretty bad with this game, it could have looked so lush, looks pretty scratchy

very stylised though:

definately worth checking out, makes good use of the wii controllers, shame more games dont use a bit of thought about how to make better use of the controllers

There's decent looking games on the Wii, I'd just say that this game has crap graphics.

I hired it out for 2 nights and gave it a good bash. Thought it was heaps of fun, but as mentioned the fluff between the fights is a bit boring (having to grind cash to buy your way into the next boss fight etc). The lack of blood/dismemberment hurts, but it's still a very enjoyable hack & slash (until Force Unleashed comes out!).

Worth hiring or buying on the cheap.
