For those interested the Spore Creature Creator demo (190MB) is available as a torrent. I think it has leaked a day early because the download link on the EA site isn't active.

More information can be found @ Spore.com, with the actual retail version going on sale through EA on Monday/Tuesday. They are taking pre-orders for around AU$10. The demo only has 25% of the parts available, the $10 version has everything.

Something I whipped up earlier:

Do the creatures do anything in this thing? Like can you animate them or anything?

I remember reading a Hyper mag back in the 90's and it had a review on an app called Morph. From memory you could take any 2 images, say a mutant and a human and it would morph one into the other. Though not directly related this did come to mind upon reading this thread.

I swear the fist creature I'll be creating once getting the full unlocked version will be Smaug.

too bad this game is single player only.

It's single player, but one thing that really appealed to me was that it took elements from other players - if you're internet-connected it will (or at least, it was supposed to - this feature was announced years ago) magically download other people's creatures to populate your environment.

bit of fun but it's pretty goofy looking :/ i wanted to make a nasty spider creature but it always comes out goofy with a silly birdlike call. :P

f*** I wish this was out for iPod Touch already... I'd probably pay money to use it if it was fun enough and you could upload to the PC from the Touch. I can see it being the best f***ing time waster ever... especially for those long car trips (when you're not driving;)

Everything you stated is true Trog.
It's called the 'Sporepedia' and showcases every single creature made by everyone playing. These creatures can populate your game by choice or Spore will choose them for you. You can search through the 'Sporepedia' like you would a search engine. Ie: 'Penis' and all the creatures that have been tagged with the word Penis will display.

Whats the deal with having to buy the full editor, is it just for the time being or will you have to buy it with the game to enjoy all the features?

Just for the time being. Although I'm not sure how aussies are going to get their hands on it. I've seen a bunch of whining on various forums about availability in AU.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Give a man a creature editor and he will have phallus shaped creatures for the rest of time.

Oh dear. Of course it wasn't going to be too long until someone did something like that - I'd already seen a puppeteer created.

Looks like one site is allowing people to purchase and download the full version.

For all those honest people out there. Don't go to the Pirate bay and download the full copy of the creature creator from the torrent "Spore part 2". Because once you install it, it will ask for a Key.
Instead don't extract the folder /data from the torrent and drop in in over the top of the /data folder of the free trail version, because you'll just end up getting the full version of the creature creator and who would want that?

Bastards - Mac version requires 10.5.3 to play (I'm on 10.4.11).

The 'F*CK' monster by parabol
holy s*** man.. that's naive but so funny, goes with my childish behaviour.

Oh by the way, my mum (and yes i am indeed 15 year old girl -.- ) snagged the spore creature creator and i was thinking.. oh this is going to be crap, mainly because anything she likes is of poor quality. Aka ... thinking that the new 'mummy' movie was "Awesome". god forbid her saying awesome ever again.

How about revolving your life around a few less cocks to the face and a few more iq points?

Well the gf has been playing spore this weekend....not a bad little game, PAINFUL to watch her play it (she needs both hands to use arrow keys), It seems fairly short though, she's up to civilisation already and probably played it 10 hours~

The whole idea is to not go digging up 3 month old threads and revive them. It's even part of the forum rules and is annoying. There's been a lot of 1 post newbies reviving threads even as old as "Doom 3 Announced!".

whats even funnier is that all the 1 star reviews were removed. people complained so amazon put them back up and blamed the removal on a "glitch"

it shouldn't take that long imo.

the first part is over in about 10 minutes, and still takes too long. (seriously, it feels like a bad popcap game)

the second part (on land) is almost as bad, takes longer and is a complete waste of time. seriously the only part thats worth it is the creature design, and thats probably what you'll spend your time doing. the rest of it is killing someone elses retarded animal, or if you're a pussy, dancing with it.

the third section is when it finally feels like a game, a bad one though. really, really half arsed. maybe its more fun when you aren't making everything extinct, but i doubt it. you won't be playing it for any other reason than to get to the next stage.

the civilisation bit was 90% designing awesome rocket boats, penis/boob buildings and whatever and 10% blowing the s*** out of the computer who always seemed to have decided that religion was a good idea. my boats did look awesome though.

the final section is the first bit i found fun. and that was mostly just terraforming plants and s***. theres not much depth to it, obviously no point to it and when you consider you went to all that effort to get that far it falls pretty flat. plus the fact that your creature has a severe case of priapism and yet is ironicly named after a part of the female anatomy is now irrelevant.

one star is probably a bit harsh, but it doesn't deserve more than 2.

I had two goes at trying to like this game and got up to the 3rd stage... delete. Popcap describes it perfectly except it is an 80 dollar popcap game.
