surely another train following straight after would be better than spending a whole minute jamming people in?

i call this spooning your fellow passengers

At least it wouldn't matter if anyone farted, no room for the air to move. :/

How utterly stupid. How can this be considered safe, either?

Melbourne kinda feels like this at times, though nowhere near as bad.

There was a situation like this at roma st station one day (obviously not as bad) I was about to try and squeeze on and then I looked at the timetable screen and there was another train coming in 2 minutes. I waited 2 minutes and got on an empty train. People are far to retarded.

It would suck if you were in the middle of the train and had to get off with 300 sardine asians in your way

From youtube comments:
That was taken at around 7:45 a.m. - which is basically the last express train that will get people to work by 9:00 a.m. after transferring to a second line in Ikebukuro.
So everyone gets off at the same stop.

This reminds me, in Japan supposedly they have a serious groping problem to the point where they have women only carts.

Haha! "Doors closing, please stand...clear...please?"

I've taken the Tube during peak time, and I thought that was nuts, but this is insane. Nice they have "white glove people movers" to gently coax you onto the train.

But hey, let's all get used to this - fuel prices going the way they are, more people will be looking to take the trains...

QR are too busy fighting the unions trying to justify a massive corporate restructure.

The simple fact remains there needs to be more trains running, reshuffling staff is not going to make less people catch the train to work :/

I got the 7:30 train yesterday from Yerongpilly and that was already well into standing room only and thats 8 stations away from central.

hahaha that video made me feel a little better about all the traffic in the morning... not much, but a little bit.

I wonder what the etiquette is in that situation...is a meagre 'thank-you' to the white glove dudes sufficient or do they expect you to tip?

i think they get all their rewards from the groping.

wtf is the point of that? it'd be better to have the staff on the INSIDE of the train yelling at everyone to fill up the spaces and cram them in that way... pushing at the doors ways would make it more difficult for the people immediately inside to disperse and to fit more people in...

If they did that then they couldn't really do the other roles in their job on the platform - and I'd assume having one more person in there is one less person that can be crammed in.. and entering/exiting the train in each carriage at every station would be highly inefficient

there is a name for the guys that grope girls on the trains in japan and i think its "chi kan" (dont quote me on the spelling btw)

but a funny story attached to that is that one day a friend of mine was on the train there, and it was packed (just like the video) and someone dropped the grope on her so she called out "chi kan" (ji kan?) and magically there was about a 1 meter space all around her with every one studiously looking away from her :P

good way to make room on a train in jpn if u ask me :)

Agamemnon: You were right the frist time, it's chikan. I've heard from Japanese friends that guys will cop a feel quite often, and chicks will frequently be too shy or embarassed to call out. Even if they do call out they're often just ignored.

fark. 'magine being the first one one, first one off :S

'scuse me', 'comin' through', 'make way' must be on the Japaneses 'tourism/traveling language dictionary'. prolly just underneath 'hello' in importance/usage.
