I did it once, for 300. Was something like $30. Seats were disgusting and ppl walking in and out every f***ing 5 minutes. Wasn't worth it.
Go to Victoria Point for brand new platinum class or even just Balmoral/Hawthorne for good cinemas, $6 ticket and close parking. |

Balmoral/Hawthorne for HORRIBLE f***ING SEATS. Seriously, they come up to just underneath my shoulder blades. Only go to those cinemas if you're a dwarf. Now garden city/carindale are a different story. But yeah, gold class is overrated. Sticky seats, small amounts of booze and spicy food are meh. last edited by Phooks at 12:05:39 08/Jun/08 |

The George Strett cinemas in Sydney are the best. They have these 'gmax' cinemas which are a cross between standard and gold class - really really nice!

Gold class is now a jip, I used to only go exclusively but with the hike in prices and how convienent Linux ISOs are to download it's not really worth it anymore.
A night out to gold class is $100 minimum (tickets, drink & food) for two people and for that sort of dollars you can go to a pretty decent restraunt and get an awesome meal instead of potato wedges and sour cream. |

Thats crazy, I remember it back when it was $25 and that was not so bad for a decent movie. Can't see myself going to gold class anymore.

yer and they wonder why people download movies... if you wanna see it without 500 other cock heads its about your only choice. why can't they release the movie online to stream the same day as at the movies? charge $15 or whatever and be done with it. or sell platnium packs where you pay more and get to stream it now plus get the dvd when it comes out. etc etc..... get with the times, if you wanna compete with downloading then u gotta offer the same convenience.

Yah I'm with the home cinema guys. Screw the movies.
Even if I buy the DVD, the cost is far less than gold class, and I get a good chair, whatever food I like, no noise, can pause the movie when I need to go do the bathroom... Best part is, since this is how I've been watching movies for 2-3 years now, there's always something new to watch - its just 2-3 months after the movie release date.... |

I went to the cinema for the first time in MONTHS last week to see iron man - I'd forgotten about the stupid new thing where they allocate your seating. f*** me it's stupid, not going back to BCC until they get rid of that setup.
My new big TV makes it much more convenient; I'm surprised how good DVDs look considering I was expecting to have to get bluray to get a really decent picture, but they look great anyway. Cinemas definitely aren't doing anything to help themselves get more customers, that's for sure. $10 for a popcorn and drink, wtf. |

But Trog you can book your ticket online and choose your seating for the small online booking fee of $1 so your total price would be a measly $15.80. Remember, it's a privilege to be able to do all the work yourself and get charged for it.

Balmoral and/or Hawthorne are quite reasonable in that they charge around 8 bux per person and popcorn and drinks are reasonable too.
BCC charge you $13 plus and you'd be lucky to get popcorn and a drink for under $10. But I would be happy to pay $20 per movie if I didn't have to put up with people talking all through the f***ing movie. f***ing s***s me to tears. I have lost count of the movies ruined by social retards and on occasion felt it necessary to give the frowning of a lifetime, but obviously there are still people who think that: a) their commentary is welcomed by fellow movie-goers who, like their sub-normal significant other, have missed vital plot points and need an update on what is going on b) by commenting on other movies that the actors have appeared in, or why the specified scene doesn't work, or by pointing out the probability of "that happening in real life is like, 1 billion to one" that other patrons will think them astute and witty c) talking about what they did last weekend enhances the cinema experience for those sitting around them d) that calling their friend and telling them that they are watching a movie in the cinema and maybe they will catch up later is acceptable (yes, this actually happened e) that yelling "You go girl" after Ripley kills an alien or commenting loudly that Paul Reiser's character is a "bastard" after he betrays Ripley during a special screening of Aliens original 16mm print is either warranted or remotely appreciated f) that for almost the entire runtime of A Clockwork Orange it's a forum for other cinema goers to hear how Johnny cheated on Sheila and why Johnny should just stop calling. COS WE f***ING CARE!!! OH God if you are one of these people who think that talking through a movie at the cinema is ok and that the suspension of disbelief and the immersion of a movie is secondary to your jaw flapping about, please kill yourself. Do it now and save me the grief. Please. last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 23:28:39 08/Jun/08 |

went to gold class for the first time last night for me and the mrs's anniversary .
annnywayy after standing in line for 15 minutes to get the bar/counter. after ordering 2 cokes and a sundae to come out half way threw the movie i was moved to the cash line to pay. then after another 8 or so people being served before me i had to wait another 20 minutes to pay for the 2 drinks and ice cream. AND THEN! the sundae i had ordered didnt even arrive! when i wen to complain they were that busy didnt have time to talk to me so they quickly refunded me the sundae. I will be emailing in a complaint today.. 36 dollars pp my ass |

Yeah I had a crap experience with Gold Class as well.
We went in and there were bugger all people in there (like, three other people) so just before the movie started we moved in to the centre seats. Then when the usher came in with our drinks she started getting lippy about how we shouldn't have moved in the middle of the movie. It wasn't like she had to "find us" since she had served us when we ordered in the first place and as I said there were about three other people. Then I ordered another drink and started about "well you are supposed to order BEFORE the movie". Kinda sucked to pay that much and then have the movie interupted. The cinema experience ain't what it used to be. Better off watching movies elsewhere. last edited by IncrEdible_vEgetable at 09:53:52 09/Jun/08 |

acetame, yeh, I won't be going back to Birch until they change that policy. I probably should write them a letter but I'm hoping they'll eventually just run out of money and be forced to sell all their employees into slavery thus saving me the effort of finding an envelope.

It appears that they're reacting to reduced cinema attendance by charging more and charging people to allocate their own seating to reduce their overheads. They'll probably blame internet hax0rs for downloading movies off the net, but just looking at this thread, I would guess that every person in this thread knows how to download movies off the net, but are all complaining about how movies are too expensive. That would indicate that they actually want to go to the movies instead of downloading them. Shock!
Also, big arse TVs & surround sound are probably not helping. |

I worked at Gold Class for about 3 months - worst job ever!! (I quit)
Regarding costs however, it depends on WHEN you go. Fri and Sat night's (after 5pm)are more expensive (?Thurs too); weekdays before 5pm are the cheapest. I think weekends may be more expensive just in general as well. Personally, regarding service and weather it is worth it... I don't think it is. They never rostered on enough staff - there was never enough people to clean up properly between sessions and serve people in a timely manner. We were ALWAYS walking in and out serving food and picking up plates, cutlery and coffee cups - as quiet as we tried to be, it's hard not to be distracted. Further, whilst the food was ok it was way overpriced. I worked at the Indro GC (which was considered the best in the state) and that was my experience at least. Perhaps it has changed; I worked there a few years ago. Agree with JohnnieD - you're way better off going to one of the smaller cinema complexes like Balmoral or Hawthorne if you want a good cinema experience - price is good, parking is better and they're generally cleaner and less crowded. Just eat beforehand or bring snacks in if you want food. last edited by Agent 99 at 11:38:06 10/Jun/08 last edited by Agent 99 at 11:38:15 10/Jun/08 |

Yeah I've found the service at the smaller cinemas to be much better and friendlier. Also $6.50 tickets on Tuesday nights for the win (at Eldorado anyway). It's crazy how more often people goto the movies if the prices are cheaper. Insane logic!

I think hawthorne still has the old seats that don't have full backs, but balmoral have beeter cinemas than BCC ones. Nice sharp rise in the floor as you go further back so you don't have to worry about tall people infront, etc.
I haven't been to a bcc cinema in a long time, but the last time i went it was almost 20$ for the ticket, but i did go during a "peak time" ie after 5pm on a weekend, so they felt they could charge me more for it. (and that wasn't gold class priceing). That and too often the "runs" of movies i want to see are over in one week, where crap movies run on for 3 months. Case in point, clerks 2, i swear it lasted just one week in cinemas. Home cinemas ftw indeed. |

i will also voice my bcc h8. last movie i saw in the cinema was sin city... the experience was lessened, but not ruined, by annoying fellow patrons, expensive s***ty drinks & food. since then i wait for the dvd to come out & watch it on home cinemas. i doubt i could ever be tempted back to public cinemas again... image & sound quality are no longer issues with home cinema & the other benefits kinda make it a no-brainer.

I went to BCC at Garden City and watched some generic hollywood movie about computer hackers. My friend and I where the only ones in the whole cinema so it was fantastic. We shouted like bogans and sang songs like we were jolly rogers and I only paid $7 bux.
