TPG 40gb peak 110gb off peak
$69.95 a month don't count uploads Would recommend, I was with internode, honestly has been no difference in reliability, have not had to call tpg support once. |

They what now?
It's worth noting we don't count uploads in your quota, they're free - only downloads count towards your monthly quota. Unless you mean naked dsl? Only thing that puts me off about tpg are the contracts http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/adsl_additionalprices.php , also looking at whirlpool they seemed to be having problems with their transparent proxy which can make browsing s***. One thing to remember, once they figure out what the f*** is happening with the network in six months or so, I'd expect a whole lot of terms and conditions to suddenly tighten up. My advice: don't take a long term contract if you can.

TPG's internet isn't that great, but it is ok. What really sucks is talking on the phone to them, because they simply cannot understand English. That's not a figure of speech, motherf***ers really don't speak English!

Im with optus, 20gig on peak, 40gig off. 72.15 a month when bundled with land line and mobile. been really good till late.. been experiencing drop outs... one tech i spoke to told me politely to f**k off because i was running server 03 and you can't run a server os on a residential internet service.. other techs are ok though.

what do you mean "now" they only count it on naked dsl, and always did so (on naked dsl).
apart from that iinets plans haven't chagned afaik. and their tech support are based in a place that speaks english. but i guess the best alternative would be internode? |

I'm with TPG in St. Lucia and it's very inconsistent. Peak hours at night is terrible and feels like dialup. Other times is fine.
It might be something to do with the old wiring in the house but that doesn't explain the consistent poor performance during peak hours. I'll get a central splitter and see if that helps, just not keen on the install fee :/ |

so iinet are counting peer to peer traffic now and uploads, so i am thinking of switching isps.I like how they tell customers they've 'improved' the toolbox by now counting peer traffic amongst iinet customers :) Ah well, I've been with iinet for almost 10 years now. I'm thinking of changing as well, was thinking TPG too. |

I have been w/ node for a while and it has been fine until about 6 months ago when I started getting dropouts. I called up a few times and the first few times the day after I Called the problem went away, even though they didn't seem to do anything or know what was the cause - so I had been assuming someone had done something and didn't tell the techs and my problem was solved.
It ended up getting worse and worse; I'd go weeks with no problems then I'd get days of broken connectivity. Each time I'd call and they'd get me to do the same (pointless) tests to make sure it wasn't a prob at my end. Eventually they did a "stability profile" on my line which helped for a bit, then I had the problems AGAIN, so I called and whined some more. They said it might be a problem w/ the port I was on at the exchange and arranged a port swap w/ Telstra - which didn't happen on the day they said it would, which I only found out when the next day I was still dropping out, so I called them up and they looked and said "oh, no, that didn't get done". Another week or so of that sort of thing happened and then they must've done it because my problems appear to be solved now. Aside from that it has been awesome. I don't really download or upload anything - usualyl do like 12gb-20gb a month just burning up with web browsing, youtubez, work stuff, chats, etc. |

Aside from that it has been awesome. I've always found it a bit difficult getting stuff resolved when you're not with Telstra, for obvious reasons. It was like that with both iiNet and Internode .. they were always waiting on Telstra to do something and there was always a communication meltdown between them. It could have been much worse with another ISP, troubleshooting with some Indian/overseas guy on the phone, getting nothing achieved. Though it all pays off, I'm now listening to 192kbps radio streams 24/7 with no hit to my quota. Node radio seriously rocks :) |

I keep looking at alternates for internode but either they have 12+ month lock in contracts or they have a lot of bad threads etc about them. TPG atm has both, although $70 a month for 150gig of data with a static IP is good, however sounds like people expect a lot

I use Internode - great for the gaming mirror and if you play WOW they have a gateway which has reduced my ping to around 180ms. Also they offer free newsgroup services (which are metered).

I think alot of the problems stem from customers and ISPs pushing for aggressive line profiles. You're pushing the copper right to it's limit with the sync rate; your maintenance costs are going to go up. Typically it's better to lose a meg and gain some robustness. Telstra guys know this and know that spending more time, truck rolls, etc. is not worth it for many cases. So some legit cases probably take longer to resolve because of this.

I'm with Exetel ADSL2+ (been with them 2.5yrs now) I pay $85 per month for 32Gb dl peak time (12pm-12am) 48Gb off peak (12am-12pm) no uploads counted. Includes line rental, get some free SMS from web, email faxes and other stuff. I've found it reliable and fast. I also use their VoIP and switched one of the mobiles over to them ($20pm for $140 calls on vodafone). They don't run a big call centre (only 9-5 M-F) so if you like to ring and whinge at 8pm at night, they aren't the ISP for you.

I am moving and new exchange doesn't have internode adsl2 so have to change isps. the iinet site says uploads don't count on adsl2+ not naked.
http://www.iinet.net.au/support/broadband/faq/quotas.html why do you think they do count uploads? |

good to hear, I will go with them over tpg (& other choice is optus)
I have been with iinet in the past and had no complaints - except that they don't do adsl1+! |

yup. They pulled out of that free peer traffic thing months and months ago.
though tbh, it was crappy to begin with. they have free iinet tv channels, radio, file servers all the normal. but i think iinet and node are much of a muchness. main diff is node have a steam mirror. |

Mr Hardware, you should set one up, and then when all the peer to peer whores start raping your back haul links you can put up your prices or start charging for uploading. it is a license to print money! |
