Hey lads, recently upgraded from ADSL to ADSL2 in the office and had to change to an ADSL2 compatible modem/router.. I've managed to get all the PC's connected to the internet through the new router but can't network the pc's together for file/print sharing etc etc..
Basically I was wondering if there are any networking guru's here that could come out today and fix this.. If interested pls send me a pm with an hourly rate and we can go from there... All PC's have Windows XP Pro.. |

* Are all on the same domain (the default is WORKGROUP) - this helps.
* Can you ping them? I assume your router is the DHCP server & is dolling out IPs all in a similar range on the same subnet. * If the above works try (in Win Explorer) \\computername If this is ok start fiddling with your shares (& piss off the network wizard - do them manually). |

well unfortunately I had to buy a Bigpond modem, 2wire 2701HGV-W. Only reason I bought it is if anything happens and I'm not in the office, any member of staff can ring Bigpond and get technical support for that modem..
All PC's are on the same domain but I'm not sure how to ping them.. I'll double check all the sharing but should be ok anyway.. I thought the issue would have been a setting in the modem/router which i'm unfamiliar with... |

do an ipconfig on each machine.
Paste the Ip address, subnet mask so we can at least see if they are on the same subnet. |

Note that Windows Firewall, by default, will block pings if it is turned on.
I take it you've gone to http://10.0.0.138/mdc and had a poke around? Check the private/home network stuff is configured properly. This may help: http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/5100-000326-000.Rev.A.pdf http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/807631.html is also interesting... |

* Are all on the same domain (the default is WORKGROUP) - this helps. *twitch* workgroups are not domains! There's no need to jump to on-site tech support so quickly! If the PCs are connecting to the network, receiving automatically assigned IPs and receiving internet through the router's gateway then the problem could still very easily not be router related... If this hasn't already been sorted there are still things that should be checked before you pay someone to come to your house and do it, even if it is a router related problem. last edited by kos at 02:02:14 25/May/08 |
