From wikipedia:

Fringe is the fourth TV Series co-created by J. J. Abrams (Felicity, Alias, Lost) and also his fourth collaboration with co-creators Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Alias, Mission Impossible III, Star Trek). It is produced by Warner Bros./Bad Robot, and deals with a research scientist named Walter Bishop (who Orci describes as "Frankenstein mixed with Albert Einstein"), his son, and a female FBI agent who brings them back together. The show is being described as a cross between The X-Files, Altered States and The Twilight Zone. Like Abrams' previous TV shows, it will have an overarching mythology. A two-hour, $10,000,000[citation needed] pilot is being produced, where Walter is in a mental hospital. Jeff Pinkner will serve as executive producer/showrunner.[1]Premieres: August 26, 2008[2]

As long as it doesn't have the whole "Carrot on a stick" story that Lost does, I might watch.

Edit: Oh wow, it's from the writers of Transformers. So now you've got J.J Abrams who entices people with a tiny piece of story each episode and writers who can't write a story. Sure to be a winner!

Well, Dollhouse is Joss Whedon, so even if it looked crap I am duty bound to watch it.

So I just saw a screener playing in a store window or something.

Interesting with an intriguing twist at the end, shows a lot of promise imo. At times it felt like they were trying to squash too much into the episode and rush the character development a bit and it seemed to be a little fast paced even for a 1 hour 20 pilot, but saying that I was sucked in and it was definately a good base to work on. There was a small paranormal theme throughout the whole ep, but more leaning towards a scientific don't-comprehend-what-just-happened rather than holy-s***-that-was-a-ghost basing. Mix in a government and tech corporation marriage of coverups/classification/conspiracy whatever, and I think this could lead to quite a decent series.

I'll definately be keeping my eyes peeled for the next installment.

Seems alright, that floaty text was a bit annoying though... probably because it reminds me of a movie that did it for the opening credits but i cant think of which one.

So, for people who have watched it, is it actually anything like X-Files?

Finally watched this today and I reckon it was good. The only real gripe I have is the lead chicky babe. She's hot but her voice comes across all weird, sorta like Candice Bergen. Not that it's a bad thing because Candice rocks extremely hard in Boston Legal. I suppose it's something I'll get used to.

Although it sucks they killed off Mark Valley's character in the first ep because I think he would have made a pretty cool bad guy. Anyway, will definitely be watching more eps of this. Looks like it will be a very damn cool show.

Just watched the pilot tonight, pretty good, will keep watching.

I was checking out IMDB to see who the old doctor was cause I thought he was Australian, I should have known just by looking at him that it's John Noble, Denethor from Lord of the Rings. While I was on there I was checking out the main chick's profile too, turns out she's Australian as well, can't recall having seen her in anything, though looking at her profile none of the shows I would have watched anyway (McLeod's Daughters, Secret Life of Us and other yawnfests)

Earlier in the show there was a throw away line about reanimating people or something along those lines, and the chick at the end said "question him", but they obviously left it open for him to just disappear in case the pilot went in another direction

Cool, Wet. That would explain her dodgy voice then.

I agree with Khel, I thought it was pretty cool. The dialogue wasn't very good, and the characters are a little cliche, but I enjoyed it, and it's certainly got potential.

WTF @ Channel 9
No 5.1, Tons of ads, and several scences cut

Good show though

how do you know scenes were cut out?

Several times the scenes seemed to jump ahead and the background music chopped.

Plus.. 82min episode in a 90 min time slot with that many ads... They had to do something to make it fit.

82 mins is the same length as the one shown in the US.

Channel 9 are incredibly bad with ads. I didn't watch Fringe tonight, but any time I've watched something longer than 30 minutes on 9, I've been really frustrated. It's the worst when they play movies. I watched some movie on there a few months back, and I remember being able to get a drink, go to the toilet, make a post on QGL and come back before the ads had finished. Ridiculous.

Yeah, the show should have been 82mins long - but there were more than 8mins worth of ads in that 90min timeslot.

anything that channel 9 talk up generally turns out to be s***
eg: the wall, wipeout, underbelly and now this.
The only thing they have going for them is Two and a half men
Channel 7 is in the same boat, they fail at everything besides boston legal

Episode 2 was pretty cool too, it really feels like it has the same vibe as oldschool X-Files, like the first few seasons before it came all conspiracy stuff.

yer but you can already see they are laying the ground work for a conspiracy (the pattern) and secret groups/socities behind it.

i wonder if they will ever get into the paranormal (like xfiles) or just stick with the fringe science.

i think the question him line was less to do with reanimation and more to do with the reference to that doc's mind meld tech. he said "i even got info from a corpse once, if it's no more than 6 hours old"

Erik with the truth
Im liking it so far but not getting my hopes up after the dribble that lost turned into.

Ive always thought the Australian networks chop up nearly everything to fit in more ads, common knowledge?
