Little info on the map:
A quick word about balance: Fishbus has gone through the most rigorous playtesting process I have seen. On my server, I have iterated through different versions of Steel for over four months and other servers have playtested earlier versions for longer periods of time.

In the past month alone on my server, Steel has undergone more than 60 hours of playtesting with over 10,000 unique players with a constant feedback cycle to consider and resolve any balance issues that arose. I commend Fishbus for subjecting Steel to this level of scrutiny.

The idea behind the map is that you have a final goal, a CP in the defenders base which can always be capped but is hard to attack until you have moved up through a series of ordered caps which each make changes to the maps structure. (extending bridges to the cap and closing doors to make the defenders run back longer and opening doors for the attackers) Pretty much created a new game type for this map... check out the video above.

Great map, played for a couple hours... its a slight bit confusing at first but there are a s***load of signs all over the place so just follow them. Had two games in two hours where the attackers won right on the buzzer... nicely balanced IMO. (seems impossible to win at first, though)

This map is the f***ing s***!

Played a couple of hours, sooo much fun, epic battles.

Though really, the whole system of "You can cap E from the start" doesn't really work... you can't even cap E when you have A,B and C... D is what really seals the deal, locks Red off from instantly respawning next to E and makes it a relatively easy win.

I like the layout, perhaps make E a bit faster to cap so scouts/soldiers/demo's can have SOME chance at capping it prior to the C (bridge) and D (red lockout) are capped.

Ive had quite a few games where E was capped before D. I never see it capped before C but.

I was also in a game where we all went scout and rushed E right at the start, we won but it felt cheap because we didnt really get to play :P

I played in the internode server for around 2 hours. Very disorientating map at first, but once you know it it's great fun!

Just thought I would mention, since internode kind of s***-canned it for a while, the steel only server is back up again - TF2 #3 on node.

Needs more people playing all the time, awesome map.

Any idea why they removed it for a while? I usually saw it full in the server browser.

It was pretty s*** defending on that map on the last point as an engi.

There are plenty of spots on the map where they can easily take out the sentry from a safe distance, even as a scout. Not to mention once an opposing engi gets his gun outside your spawn (over the gap) you're entire team is f***ed.

You'd need at least 3 sentry guns to successfully defend E, and that just doesn't happen when your forces are already stretched thin..

I really like steel. Internode also have a 24/7 pl_dustbowl (dustbowl.. goldrush style) server which is a nice variation.

Meanwhile GA custom servers are broken and nothing seems to be done about it even though they know about the problem.

The only problem with the map is that it lends itself to organisation more than the valve maps, purely because of the number of ways to get behind most positions. You REALLY need your team helping you to keep sentries up and that is how it should be...
