Dunno how many people are paying attention to it, but there's so much hilarity coming from it sometimes (of course it'd be ACTUALLY funny if it wasn't going to be deciding the state of international affairs for the next few years).
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/15/hardball-shoutfest-matthe_n_102020.html edit: figured out how to embed it; the embed button the flash player didn't seem to work in Safari for some reason: This is an MSNBC video of host Chris Matthews drilling the living s*** out of some douchebag radio host, talking about comments made by President Bush about Obama. |

their politics is painful... and expensive And for the primaries that's not government funded. How many favours does the president owe rich power brokers by the time they get in power. That said I do like that in both houses of their government people will cross the floor. |

The pundit industry is continually developing, and scary. I mean with the obvious injected personas and preconceived marketed appeal to a particular base, the rise of the pundit kinda reminds me of how management of the WWF evolved, an eternal struggle to maintain or grow marketshare in a tired yet niche industry. Persona driven reporting, just what American media needs. Jon Stewart is doing us a real service by keeping the pundits square and centre in his sights!

On a tangent about US politics there's this:
6 minutes each, but I can respect someone that rants reasonably eloquently about George W Bush for 12 minutes. |

That said I do like that in both houses of their government people will cross the floor. Agreed Obes, but the way it ends up running for a year and the constant bulls*** bickering WITHIN parties is s***. The Clinton vs Obama fight has probably done more damage to the democrats than all the Republican slander. |

Yeah billy, lots of other bits are very f***ed up.
But I do like 2 bits. - Direct election (well sort of through colleges) of the president and the ability to have a president who may not have control of the senate or house of reps. Heck even an independant president is possible. - And the fact members can represent their voters or their conscience and cross the floor. |

"I understand that when you are running for office sometimes you think the world revolves around you. That is not always true and it is not true in this case," -- Dana Perino, White House spokesperson, 15-MAY-2008.

The Clinton vs Obama fight has probably done more damage to the democrats than all the Republican slander. Not even close. When the Republican slander campaign gets going in the lead up to the general election this in-fighting will pale in comparison. |

Has this video appeared on Fox yet with a heading like, "Chris Matthews viciously attacks Patriot"?

Yeah, what a complete f***ing moron. Pretty typical of the majority of republicans :/
Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, along with Tim Russert and Brian Williams are arguably the only reputable anchormen left in the business, with sane ideology able to see through the lies and bulls***. In fairness though, we can add John Stewart and Stephen Colbert (the actor, not the character) to that list. It would be great to see any of these six as the next White House press secretary. |

Question: Is Australian TV ever this bad?
I love watching the US election coverage. It makes for some great entertainment, but the absolute rubbish that comes out of a persons mouth on the news over there is so staggering it almost hurts. I've been trying to find some Australian parallels but I can't see anything*. Is it because of our much smaller population? Perhaps we do we have our fair share of stupid news shows? * ACA and Today Tonight are pretty bad, but even they keep a tab on things. I'm thinking more along the lines of news coverage. last edited by ccl at 01:44:15 17/May/08 |

screaming when you don't really know anything & avoiding actually answering a direct question seems to be a common theme...
and this is only internal in one party right? then they choose their pres candidates? and then they go head to head again?? what a bloody drawn out process. |
