http://www.ausgamers.com/images/features/age_of_conan.jpg Funcom have announced that Age of Conan has gone gold. Can it stack up against the competition? They reckon they're in with a chance:
Age of Conan is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated PC games in development. At launch the game will have received more than thirty covers on high-profile gaming magazines across the globe and more than fifteen major awards, including numerous "Best MMO of E3" awards and the official "Best Online Game" award at the Games Convention 2007. Age of Conan is a key title in Microsoft's Games for Windows line-up, and a showcase title for nVidia. Age of Conan launches 20th of May in North America / Oceania and 23rd of May in Europe
If you haven't seen anything from this game yet, make sure you check out all the videos and screenshots we have.

There's just a lot the game has to offer really

Unique combat styles, large-scale pvp(Like DAoC I guess), mounted pvp, siege weapons, and little things such as barfights

You'd have to watch some of the videos on it, but it looks like it will be a decent mmo (but unfortunately buggy as f*** at release :( )

combat is the best out of any mmo i've ever seen, it's not a click, auto-attack and press the odd button for abilities like wow. you actually have to swing your own sword, aim the bow yourself, etc.

this game looks rad but i'm not sure if i should play another mmo after wow =/

This looks like it will be damn cool although I wanna try a trial version first to see how much it rapes my machine.

Im prolly gonna end up buying this and seeing what its like. my pc is pretty much the minimum requirements too so while that does suck, apparantly the guy's pc in that site obes linked is about the same so should be fine. Combat does look more fast paced than wow's, right click -> mash 1 or 2 for awhile = profit

The combat system is pretty nifty, but remember how rocket launchers in multiplayer fps worked over modem? you know, anticipate where they were going to be and aim there? Now take that & plug it into an MMO combat system and you've got the idea of how Conan's "click to swing" type stuff works..

Unless they've done stuff to deal with this, US Conan players will be fine, anyone else with high-ish latency will be screwed.

(Happy to eat words if things have been adjusted since I last read some beta testing feedback, which was about 2-3 months ago).

The Unique combat may be unique but it's still boring as bat s***. Noone in pvp is going to bother with moving their shields around, so the left/up/right combat system will be useless. Also most of the single player is played offline so don't expect to play the single player portion with your friends (these are just my experiences from being in the beta)

Its being made by Funcom, and what was the last MMO Funcom did? Anarchy Online? That was so unfinished and so buggy when it came out it was hardly playable, so yeah, I'm not suprised to hear AoC is the same.

Actually it's close to 40 or something after patches I found :/

It's an MMO about to be realeased? I don't think there's been an MMORPG without any issues. No matter how much testing they do, I guess there will always be someone to find bugs.
