So I mentioned this in the 'my e-wang is better than your e-wang' phone thread, it's so cool I'm now giving it a thread of its own
JoikuSpot is a free application for S60 (v3+ I think) enabled smart phones that have both 3g and 802.11b/g/n wireless capabilities Essentially anywhere you can get 3g you can turn your phone into a regular wireless access point so you can connect your laptop or iphone/PSP etc to the 'net http://www.joikuspot.com/aboutJoikuSpot.php Whitepaper - http://www.joikuspot.com/JoikuSpot_WhitePaper.pdf |

Cool, so you can finally do using 802.11b what we could do with 802.16 (Bluetooth) five years ago.

Why? bluetooth works just fine and I never use my 3G connection away from my laptop.
Each to their own I guess, I spose it would be handy if your laptop doesnt have bluetooth |

Also please note... if you have a HSDPA phone, 723kbit isn't really going to cut it for real wireless internet... And that's not even thinking about whatever overheads there might be to actually facilitate the bluetooth gateway.

Unless your HSDPA phone (Like mine) has bluetooth 2.0, which I think gives you up to 3mbps
I think the last speed test I did one my laptop using my phone as the gateway via bluetooth gave me around 230KB/s |

i browse the net fine when i'm travelling with my HSDPA handset, sure its not cable but if you are expecting it to be anything like a dedicated connection you are an idiot anyway.

I simply stumbled across it because sometimes work will call me when im travelling and I need high speed 'net access, 3g is 'fast enough' but i really do need the laptop because I have to vpn in and they use usb-security tokens + i need remote desktop and such
its not meant to be a dedicated connection |

So windows mobile 6 has been out for awhile, I updated my Tero 750 and WM6 smokes the s*** out of windows mobile 5, everything is way faster and my miniSD card dosen't disconnect anymore, on WM5 I had to reseed it all the time.
