I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible with the current (X)HTML box model.

The two boxes (divs, table cells, whatever) are continuous blocks of inline content.

Basically,I want to whack some content in the A box and have the B box wrap around it.

Doable?

With floats, yeah. It's typically used to have text wrap around images like in an article but the image elements can easily be a divs full of whatever content.

Edit: On second reading this probably came off as patronizing crap that doesn't solve your problem depending on how knowledgable you are but it's the only way to do anything like you describe. It's called the box model and not the polygon model for a reason.

Haven't tested, but if Box B contains text, and box A is floating, then it should wrap around it.

Ahh hadn't realised that a making A a floating div inside b would do that.

Verr nice - thanks!

Thread title adequately describes which box model is contained within.

However original thread purpose is now fulfilled; it may be used to contain spoot, if required.
