got a small question about a simple rca/minijack in to minijack out switch i want to make for my dvd/ipod setup.

i know electronics in principle but ive never rly done any (i.e. me = electronic newbie) so just wondering if having the GND simply connect via both cables coz i cant seem to find any DPTT switches only double pole ones.

this is my current circuit

Do i need the grounds separated? or will a voltage on either input device take care of that without the need for a triple pole switch. Obviously the cables will always be connected.

might need to disconnect the ground on 1 of them if you get any ground loop hum.

I've noticed with some car radios it specifies to NEVER connect the audio out/speakers to a common ground, I don't know if any home hi-fi stuff would have the same requirements.

3PDT do you? How about a 4PDT?

always change the entire connection inc GND, too much room for strange s*** to occour when you are un-necessarily tagging an extra earth into the signal flow.

There's more than one jaycar store, which one did you go to? Also ask the dude behind the desk.

Diodes on both grounds so no backfeeding occurs? That should work shouldn't it?

**shrugs** is that like the effect of a diode in a relay switch?
