Went to see this yesterday and thought it was a decent movie.

Spoiler:
Why didn't Bandy protest when Plainview confessed the sin of abandoning his son instead of murdering Henry? Seems a bit strange that the whole reason Bandy wanted him to get baptized was because he discovered the body/gun...
Also, was it just me or was anyone else smiling when the priest died?

Overall, 8.5/10. Not a lot of action, but directing, acting and drama was great.

Although I didn't think the movie was as good as films like no country for old men, the individual performance of daniel day lewis, and his characters actions as a whole... were f***ing AWESOME. DRAAAAAIINNNNNNNAGGEEEEEEEEEEE.

Acting was amazing, the film on the other hand was very average, it just dragged on with not enough happening to keep me interested.

nah wrong.. this film was way better than no country for old men.. as good as that movie was, the Cohen brothers have made better movies and its merely that, a very good movie.. there will be blood is pretty much a masterpiece, the acting, themes, score, cinematography is all insanely perfect, it's one giant body slam on the for and against of naturalism, religion, capitalism, and humanity. s*** was incredible and won't be appreciated properly for some years, and probably never fully appreciated/understood by your average idiot who probably thinks of no country as totally rad and like a modern terminator with drugs n s***. PTA was totally right to be super pissed when the oscar went to no country, i still can't see how its possible, but then i don't think Kubrick ever won an oscar either.. load of bulls***.

I really REALLY enjoyed the movie... I didn't think it dragged on at all.

As always the Oscars aren't necessarily cut and dried. Often people will win awards not for the movie they delivered this year but for a long history of good movies. While I think No Country was good I suspect this was the case with the Cohen's who were never awarded for Fargo or other classics.

Also the thinking goes the other way PTA is young and I heard someone suggest that Hollywood will give him another couple of years before they start throwing oscars at him.

Sorry for grave digging but I only got around to watching this last night. Must say it's one of the best things I've seen in ages and Daniel Day Lewis was f***ing amazing. Chucked it thru my projector and 5.1 surround and that scene where the well explodes and showers down oil everyone was f***ing awesome.

Anyway, great movie if you haven't seen it yet.

Yeh in response to the Oscar's reputation, just think back to how Denzel got the best actor award for that average film Training Day which he will probably admit himself he was average in. He was up aginst Rusty who, love him or hate him, was simply the better actor in the film A Beautiful Mind.

Rusty had beaten someone up at the Golden Globes or something and Denzel was overdue for an Oscar. Therefore, Denzel gets the gong and Crowe gets the s***s.

The moral of the story is that the Oscars are hardly a good measure of film.

Anyway I give TWBB 8/10. Extremely well made movie, impeccably well acted but it doesnt quite hit the high note.

The music in the movie is quite interesting too.

Also, I noticed that the start of the movie has the same mood!? as the start of 2001. Reading some of the blogs, it seems PTA has hinted at a small homage to Kubrick. The first 15mins has no dialogue, is set in a barren landscape with haunting music and the scene when Plainview pulls the oil coated metal pole from the well is apparently a metaphor for the 'Black Monolith'.

The 2nd half of the movie reminds me alot of 'Citizen Kane' especially the final scenes in the Mansion.

this movie got way over-hyped for me... so i had really high expectations that it didn't quite meet but i still thought it was pretty good.
