The deal will offer anyone who pre-orders the game for Xbox 360 (and not PS3, obviously) four exclusive GTA 4 Gamerpics as well as 500 Microsoft Points - all redeemable through a special code included with the pre-ordered game package.

Obviously, despite having exclusive downloadable content, this is another incentive by Microsoft for anyone looking to buy either a 360 or PS3 for GTA 4 to look Microsoft's way. It seems pretty likely people with both consoles will end up with the game on 360 regardless.

Why do people preorder 6 months before a game comes out? When everyone does this it's just making the companies richer as they are getting interest, and that money isn't going back to the publisher. I know that EB are doing it because they're eventually going out of business when DD hits, but seriously, it's all so dodgy to me.

If there's going to be a limited edition version offered, then getting in really early (At least with EB, mostly) normally gives you first dibs on one. I know I'll be pre-ordering the next WoW expansion soonish for this reason, simply because I'm a sucker for Collector's Editions of games (art books, making ofs etc are always awesome).

Why do people preorder 6 months before a game comes out?

Well, two reasons, I wanted one of the limited edition ones with the duffel bag and safety deposit box, but also, this was before the game was delayed, so I was expecting to get it in like November last year, so it wasn't really THAT far in advance at the time.

i preordered my collection edition for the ps3 last night
if the "exclusive downloadable content" ends up being decent enough to buy from xbox live ill pick up a 360 copy 6months after release hopefully cheaper.

Why are you going the ps3 version over the xbox360? I am going the ps3 version due to the lack of 360 in my house but downloadable content could be good.

Only bonus I can see with the ps3 version is the region free so I pre-ordered from playasia on the cheap for 60-70 bucks, I read somewhere not all 360 games are region free?
