Hey,
Last night the house next door had a spotlight on all night. The walls of our properties are pretty close together, and this spotlight happens to cast its beam right at one of my windows. Even if i shut my blinds entirely, my room is quite illuminated. I find it quite hard to get to sleep unless I'm absolutely exhausted, so my room being lit up doesn't help. Anyway, the house next door is up for sale at the moment so no one has been living there for a while. I *think* someone (maybe the real estate agent? i dont know) was there yesterday, and must have turned that light on. So this morning i noticed the light was still on, so i rang the mobile number of the real estate agent (his mobile number was on the sign). I explained the situation to him and he said "he'd fix it". Anyway, the working day is almost over and the light is still on. Just wondering what i can do in this situation? Got an early morning tomorrow so i don't want to waste time trying to get to sleep tonight. |

A reasonable period of time hasn't passed since you made the request |

Go Old Testament on their ass.
(Alternatively, you could sue them in the district court for the tort of nuisance.) (Alternatively, you could see relief via the Magistrate's Court under the Peace and Good Behaviour Act). |

Climb the fence and unscrew the bulb. Would have done that already but its mounted high up, i'd need to take a ladder over. Nothing yet What's a "reasonable period of time" defined as? |

Another option, tell him you dont mind if he leaves the light on if he doesnt mind you cranking gangsta rap music everytime he shows the house to a client.

What's a "reasonable period of time" defined as?more than 8 hours... you should call again this afternoon, and/or again in the morning - same again the next day after that if they haven't done anything about it, call a solicitor and ask what you should do - unless you're prepared to modify your own window to prevent the light from being an issue. |

Bit late now, but call the real estate and basically TELL him that you are going to unscrew the bulb to save him the trouble. He will most probably thank you, real estate agents are lazy as f***! We recently had a window lock broken and our house broken into, the real estate woman tried to tell us that it would have to wait until my property manager came back the next day, thus leaving our house open to burglarly a 2nd time. Had my housemate (property lawyer) call up and the stupid cow tried to say she knew her s***! HA! Anyways...point is real estate agents are lazy and won't do anything unless you call them constantly

If its still on in the morning, i'll ring him again and ask. I guess if it's not off by the following night, i'll drop the gangsta beats bomb. |

Flicking the power test switch sounds like a good idea.
I'd wait till tomorrow morn, call again first. If it's not off by COB tomorrow arvo, Flick the switch. |

C'mon it's just a light. Find something to cover up your window better. Trespassing and harassment are stupid ideas.

Whilst waiting for this thing to be resolve you could get one of those sleep eye patch thingy so at least you can get some sleep. Naturally it's not a permanent solution but it'll let you sleep until you can think up a way to fix it permanently :)

Inject some epoxy in the locks, turn the water supply off and pour concrete over the knob. I dunno how this will help, but you'll get some satisfaction.

I can't be bothered reading.
Has anyone suggested hitting it with a trolley bar yet? But be careful you might knock the house down. |
