Lost Season 4 starts today in the US (S4E00 is out now). It's a double episode, the first a recap with some new stuff then a normal episode - effectively a recap with lots of Jack pouting.

Here's hoping something happens.

The first comment on the episode i've come across had this to say: "Oh wow, just finished watching it. THIS SEASON IS GOING TO BE f***ED."

Looks promising, can't wait.

What the hell is the black cloud and what's its purpose and who is that invisible guy that spoke to the bald guy who seems to be the boy scout of the group and what does the ex-neighbours star have to do with it and why does the Irishman time travel and why is there hardly any sex in the show and why is there no nudity?

Other than I'm confused I don't mind the show. Don't watch it regularly enough though.

How is it a double episode when its the same file size as a normal episode?

Or by double do you mean split not doubled in size?

It's not a "double episode" the first thing they aired is a re-cap, like an extended "previously on lost". That's followed by a regular length season premiere.

Opinion time: it's the same old Lost. More mysteries to ponder and more take what they give you storytelling. I still dig it.

s04e00 is the recap episode, s04e01 is the proper episode.

Make sure you get the REAL.REPACK of 00 as the firse one out has a bit of time travel of its own.

I thought the same thing judging by the reaction of Jack's face, but I didn't recognise him either. I liked the episode and I dig the flashforwards instead of flashbacks, interesting to find out Spoiler:
only 6 survive the island and that Hurley is sorry for going with Locke, gave the impression something happens between the two groups

Nah, you're assuming too much Spoiler:
"Oceanic 6" only implies that there's 6 people that the public are aware of that survived the plane crash. Not that "only 6 people survived the island".

I dunno about the series now. I kinda liked the lost-on-an-island-that's-disconnected-from-the-rest-of-the-world atmosphere it had. Now that people are falling from the sky its kinda losing that appeal.

the guy that parachuted in at the end is a new character. so no we havent seen him before.

as for oceanic 6, i took it as only 6 of the survivors decided to leave the island. the others could have died or stayed on the island.

in the season 3 finale it was clear that whilst jack and kate were back in America, there must have been people still left on the Island...

The question is if Jack and Hurley are going seperate ways - how did they both end up amongst the 6 rescued people?

The 'Oceanic Six' would have to be Jack and Kate (as they appeared in a flash forward last season), Hugo (cos he declares himself as one of the 'six') and Claire and baby Aaron (because Desmond saw them in his vision of the future getting into a chopper) So that's five so far. Kate mentioned to jack (in their flash-forward) that she needed to leave because 'he would be waiting for her'...I assume the 'he' she is talking about is known to both her a Jack, so my guess is he's one of the 'six'...maybe Sawyer.

At the end of last season jack attended an empty funeral for one of the six, either sawyer or loche, can't remember.

Just because Claire and Aaron got in to a chopper doesn't mean it didn't crash.

I don't recall actually seeing Penny coming in by parachute. I believe Desmond just assumed it was Penny. And also the dead guy in the coffin is J. Lantham (don't know who he is yet) as stated in the newspaper clipping Jack has. If I hadn't read the guys name in the clipping I would have said it was Walt, cos the coffin is really small.

48 more ep's over 3 seasons has been confirmed, but I'm not sure I can hold out that long...

That being said though, this Ep (as per usual) left me screaming in frustration at the TV for adding yet ANOTHER twist to the tale.

yes i saw on lostpedia that the producers of the find815 game are Hoodlum, a Brisbane-based games developer, commissioned by Yahoo7.

The game itself develops a rather limited storyline, and I don't really see its connection to the main story.

edit: it was still entertaining though, good work

Anyone catch the trailer for the Lost: Via Domas game. http://www.ausgamers.com/videos/view.php/33530 Looks pretty ass. Well the character likenesses are all pretty well done and the graphics are sufficient for an adventure game etc, but damn, the fact that they couldn't get the voice actors pretty much spoils the whole deal.

The worst part of working on this, is i can't go off on my normal rants (check out my Heroes rants from season 1 :) ) about where i think the story is going, as i have read the first couple of season 4 scripts...

Lets me just say, the story told on find815, is relevant to the new season... and we are lead to believe, to the total mythos that is LOST. That last bit is 3rd hand and I can not confirm this to be true, but I like the idea :)

I was intrigued by the whole Ameila Earheart, "Trench that swallows ships" idea. I guess the temporary Aurora Borealis that they speak of has to do with the Dharma magnetic experiments.

I also found that some of the games etc were a bit temperamental i.e. getting a clue word from y7 then putting it back into the game itself wouldn't work in parts so I just QQ'd and gave up.

Can anyone confirm that one of the dead bodies found in the cave (season 2) is Desmond. The black and white rocks found near the bodies were on Desmond's lounge room coffee table when he did his little time "travel/parallel universe" trick (season 3). Have they all been here before? So many references by all the characters to familiarity about the events on the island, eg In the pilot, Jack is trying to unblock a survivors airway and Boone asks if he should find a pen so Jack can perform a tracheotomy. He then said he had seen it done somewhere before...then when Boone is on his death bed Jack actually performs the operation on him. It was very subtle and could be meaningless...but you never know. Also, did anyone notice the photo that was taken of Hurley in the psyche ward with his arm around Dave the imaginary friend? The photo was taken at lunch time. You can see trees through the window...when Hurley is given the photo to look at, his arm is in mid air with no Dave. It is clearly a nighttime shot. Blackened window complete with reflection of camera flash. Poor Hurley has been set-up!

from what I gather the season 4 flash forwards actually take place before the flash forward at the end of season 3, as jack had a beard in the last episode and he mentions to hurley in season 4 that he's thinking of growing a beard. My guess is it's hurley who is in the coffin and his death prompts jack to tell kate they need to go back.

existence, the photo I'm talking about can be seen in the latest recap episode (S04E00 @ 14 mins & 47 secs).

and

I agree with WetWired saying that the recent flash-fwd takes place before last seasons flash-fwd, but i doubt it was Hurley in the coffin...it was a seriously small coffin, maybe even a kid's coffin (maybe Walt's) Whoever it is in the coffin, they must have done something really bad cos Kate said to Jack "Why would I want to go to the funeral?"

The name of the person in the coffin (J. Lantham) is in the newspaper clipping that Jack showed Kate. I figure, Michael changed his and Walt's name when they returned home to avoid answering questions like "Wtf have you two been for the past 3 months?" If he answered this question truthfully he would be locked up in a psyche ward for talking crazy. This is also the reason why Jack asked Hurley if he had mentioned anything about the island to anyone.

Hey Metrix, Find815 is really well put together. My only complaint is the reward system. When Snakeman told me about the site, he said that there would be real answers to the tv show. I think that the amount of time one spends on the site should be rewarded with more...pwease!

Most of the pay offs in the TV show attached to find815 come in the first 3rd of season 4...

I am not aloud to mention specifics (under a very strict NDA), but of course I can talk about aired material...

The obvious one is the ROV news article in episode 2 has been revealed and they mention the Christiane I as the boat that found it, originally we wanted "Sam Thomas" from find815 to take part in the episode 2 news piece, but we couldn't get everything in place to make the cut, it was however the plan :(

Also the first 2 clue words from chapter 1 partner games were "Mathew" and "Abaddon", whom we have all now met in Ep1 and again in ep 2... I love that character :)

There are still 5 more weeks of "clue words" to be explained, and the Season 4 rewards from the clue hunt all get revealed as significant in the coming weeks too...

From what I have read, Episode 2 is the first of a very good run of eps :)

So sit back and enjoy the ride

WTF Heardy. Since when does reading a thread mean you are obligated to post in it? I came here to read what other people had to say about the ep, didn't necessarily have anything of my own to add this time around.

It's one thing to not know that it's not cool to post spoilers without tagging them (or not know how to tag them). It's another thing to repost the same f***ing thing after it was just removed by a moderator.

well in theory ravenos has broken the rules too...

I dunno, I am sticking to the fact this is a discussion topic about LOST, therefore spoilers are going to be contained within the tread, if you don't want to read them then don't read the thread until you've watched the episode.

Also, whilst your being all high and mighty and on your soapbox, talking about the show at all should be banned because you're illegaly downloading it! (It's shown here on Sunday nights, so I am safe!)

I expect that from movie threads but ongoing TV shows are different imo.

I have watched the most recent episode. His spoiler was something that hasn't aired anywhere.

But im pretty sure it surfaced in a press pack or some other s***e.. or else how would they have the guy in question in a f***ing pose with a sea background saying 'this is how he looks in 2008' and it was confirmed at a freakin comicon... i mean f*** they're running out of options unless they're going to pull some random "goat monitoring station' out of their ass and he's been living there monitoring the state of goats on the island for the last 100 days while everyone else has been blowing the f*** out of everything...

That way the producers won't drag the c*** out with endless flashbacks for another 2 seasons.

Didn't they amend the Copyright Act recently (last couple of years)? I thought those amendments allowed people to legally make a recording using a VCR or PVR etc so long as they didn't watch it more than a few times(?) or distribute it.

Episode 8 just aired.

I thought it was a pretty good episode, a lot of information was revealed.

Unfortunately that's the last episode for about a month - something to do with the writer's strike.

Man up Michael.

It almost didn't seem like an episode of Lost. So much back story told for one character. Normally they'd stretch that out over half a season.

Ben already told Michael way back what heading to follow on the boat to escape the island. Why don't they use Jin's fishing boat and do that? huh!? HUH!? Oh that's right, they're too busy all dying off randomly and suddenly.

Jin's fishing boat actually belongs to Desmond. They haven't tried sailing away from the island on it because Desmond told them that it was useless after he attempted it himself. He said the island had some kinda perimeter (bit like a giant snow-globe).
However...looking back at all the eps, it appears that Desmond and Ben have never spoken to each other or met each other. Ben was also surprised in season 3 of the "Losties" having a boat and didn't know where it came from. Desmond had been in the hatch for 3 yrs (on camera)....I can't see how Ben would NOT know about Desmond or his boat. So I think maybe they do know each other which leaves Desmond as a traitor, and he could be bulls***ting about the snow-globe theory. Hmmmmmm wtf did I just write?

it makes sense now that why kate hated him and didnt wanna come to his funeral, because locke must have been coming and seeing the oceanic 6 and trying to get them to return to the island. he was right all along about saying that it wasn't the right time for them to leave.

he will be resurrected or come back alive some how for sure, he cannot f***en stay dead!!

I agree, I think the whole 4 toed statue was a clever redirect, no one ever talks about the Greek/Roman ruins on the island, only a "four toed statue"

If you ignore the four toes thing, the scene changes in importants.

The question becomes, "What mysterious Island would have Greek or Roman ruins on it?"

I'm wondering how they're going to flashes now, if any. Will the episodes now be set in the time where the flash forwards have been occurring? Or will they concentrate on those left on the island and then flash to those off the island and then both timelines meet up at the end of the season? Lots of possibilities!

i think it will be flashes between those on the island and those trying to get back.
Metrix

In the final double episodes the first seen at the airport with Kate and Jack changed the timeline for us... For the first time, the show used the "Flash back" sound and cut to black before switching to an Island scene, effectively making all the events on the Island in the PAST while the events back at the airport and the coffin reveal the new "current time" of the story line.

I read that somewhere on a blog :)

I also liked the analogy of "freezing" the battery to stop the chemical reaction of the battery, while the Island transportation device was "frozen", which I assumed was to stop the "chemical reaction". Then the turning of the "Donkey Wheel" increased the sunlight and warmed the room to make the Island move...

Or am i reading too much into it :)

I just finished watching the series final the old fashioned way.

Is Locke really dead? Or is he just pretending methinks!?

This is a theory from Lostpedia:

Locke and Ben knew that the only way to reach all the O6 and bring them together to get back to the Island would be through some great con. Locke and Ben are together in this plot. They used one of the spiders that stunned Nikki and Paulo (their relevance to the show cannot be null as it is right now) to create "a fake death".

I liked how when they were hanging about the chopper and sayid is intently on watch, holding his gun, looking like he knows what he is doing... then hurley waddles up out of the jungle and sayid only notices him when hurley yells at him.
I also liked the analogy of "freezing" the battery
So... someone with some chemistry knowledge.. if the freezing of the battery stops it from sending current to the bomb.. why not just cut the wires which would also stop current to the bomb? Its like the writers saw something similar in a movie and they just said "hey that looks cool" without thinking about the actual reasoning behind it.

I reckon the 'present' will now be the people trying to get back to the island, and it'll flashback to the 'past' which will be what happened to Locke and the rest of the people on the island after it moved, probably covering those bad things Jack mentioned.

That spider theory is nice, there is another episode which in my mind has no relevance to the Mythology. The one were you see Jack in Bali getting a tattoo. The whole episode, felt empty apart from the fact the tatooist chick was all scared by him.

Mind you the fake plane was discovered off the coast of Bali, but that just doesn't feel like it's the point of the Bali/Jack Episode.

It was good to see walt

I'm pretty sure children up until about a year old have a natural reflex that stops them from trying to breathe when submerged. I saw it demonstrated years back on the Discovery Channel, by the guy who hosted that Human Body series.

I stopped watching this show in Season 2 when I thought it got a little lame and too much dragging out. I just caught up all in a couple weekends and f*** me, this show still sucks.

Seriously, watching it feels like they are just making it up episode by episode. When you're watching episodes back to back its so noticeable, each episode ends with some ridiculous new cliffhanger.

I just think the characters behaved soooooo unrealistically, especially when they were in the vicinity of someone claiming to know something (ben/locke/people from boat), accepting trite half-assed explanations clearly designed to lead to yet more cliffhangers, or getting told "trust me" and then deciding to do so, despite ALL the evidence to the contrary from the previous epsides that they shouldn't be trusted.

Retarded things like what happened to Charlie were just stupid. OK fine, Desmond had that vision of the future, but like he couldn't have made it out of the door and bolted it behind him in time. That scene was just really poorly orchestrated and made it look like an utterly pointless event instead of being a necessary sacrifice.

Every episode just raises more questions, every time Ben opens his mouth I just want to fast forward to the bit where we find out its a lie AGAIN and they're stupid for believing him AGAIN. Except the hugely obvious scene where he was always going to be telling the truth about the stupid ship that was coming to get them.

I tried to disengage my brain and sit back and enjoy it - its production values are so high and the cast is great and the characters generally have interesting stories. Just the way its glued together and the feeling that its just constantly flailing aimlessly around is pissing me off, and the hackneyed way it tries to draw out the suspense and repeatedly leap from cliffhanger to cliffhanger is really boring.

that'd be awesome, except just when he was about to save them, something would happen and locke would come back and the island would turn upside down in the water and everyone would grow gills, and ben would say "hey I dont know anything about this", and everyone would be all like "oh ok ben no problems", and then they'd be swimming through the upside down jungle and it'd start raining, only raining air, because they're underwater, and someone would see some person they thought was dead and wander off alone, and then the black monster thing would come out of nowhere and kill them, then they'd find the body and be all like "what the s*** is up with that black monster thing" and locke would be "yeh ben wodup with that s***, I know you can talk monsterese, tell that bitch to lay off, yo", and ben would be like "no dog I don't know what's going on", and someone would punch him in the face (Really slowly though cuz remember they're still underwater) and then jack would try to shoot him but the gunpowder would be all wet so the bullet wouldn't fire, then hurley would say dude and kate still wouldn't take her f***ing top off and we'd be where we are right now. BORED.

While my chemistry knowledge might not be up to scratch, I'm pretty sure from an electrical perspective, the detonator box would probably have resistance measuring circuitry that would detect the presence of a battery. Whether you could slow down the reaction or not, removing the battery would cause an open circuit and...... boom.

The one thing I enjoy about Lost more than any other show is that the writers actually bothered to create a history for each of the main characters and use time in the show to explain how they got to where they are today, and the demons they are fighting.

I enjoy the flashbacks equally to the mainstory but the flash-forwards have added a novel dimension to the story, as they foster a new kind of speculation in the viewer.

I appreciate that the writers have bothered to create an entire folklore (no matter how unrealistic it is) as the basis for the story, and it has continuity which enables complex character development.
