My sister has a Toshiba laptop with only 512mb ram and it's running Vista like s***e.
My question is how hard is it to upgrade ram in a laptop? Is it better to take it to a techy or is it just as easy as chucking a stick of ram in a desktop? |

Tis pretty easy. Just click out and click in.
I just bought 2 laptops with vista, both ran like s***e. Upgraded to 2gb each and they run perfect now. |

why would you even put vista on a laptop that only has 512mb ram? She didn't. She needed a lappy for work and did the interest-free thing at Hardly Normal. When she was buying it I told her to make sure she got XP on it but the sales rep said that it was pre-installed with Vista. .. usual story This was about a yr ago when Vista just came out. I'd heard that Vista was a prostitute (thats why I recommended XP) but I had no idea the extent to which it sucked on resources, even after a bit of optimization. Also can you just use any old ram or does have to ram specifically designed for laptops? last edited by sLaps_Forehead at 19:01:43 27/Jan/08 |

i'd open the RAM flap (somewhere on the back)and take out the 512 and take it to a store...they might even trade it in for you, my local up here does.
also by opening the back up you'll see if it has another slot or you just need a bigger single ram. go the most you can fit i reckon. |

You might even be able to exercise your downgrade rights from Vista to Xp depending on which version of Vista you got
