Whether you buy albums, download them, or don't listen to music at all, you may find yourself paying a music tax for the recording industry. I guess they've decided enough people listen to their music for free so why not just impose purchasing music as a tax on their cable tv or internet bill. Also means they don't have to actually put any effort into signing artists, producing music, or even distributing it, since they'll be getting the same money anyway...

sarkozy in france is planning to tax the internet in order to support ad free public tv and people also want a similar tax to support musicians. internet in france is very cheap so people might not get too cheesed off. freebox gives you 100 channels + internet + voip (free calls to lots of places including australia!) for 30 euro/month.

Well you can enjoy your ringtone sounding remakes of old songs the record companies churn out, because none of this money has to go towards developing new talent
