A Melbourne café owner is so sick of hearing about Facebook he has banned his patrons from talking about the popular social networking website. There will be a story on it on channel 9 in a couple minutes |

Yeah it's news, since when do restaurant owners govern the topic of conversation? Since now I guess.

Reminds of that Club owner in Syd who banned the Melbourne Shuffle at his nightspots. Said that drunk people were trying to imitate the 'buzzed' rave dancers and in turn hurting themselves. Here's an idea...instead of banning a particular dance at a dance venue, how about banning the selling of alcohol to drunk patrons?

In WA when I worked in a bar & anyone was too drunk I could tell em no more & hand them water until they had sobered up a bit. Lol. Its quite funny watching the expression on their face when you refuse them alcohol..... |

RSA is in every state.
In Queensland it is compulsory to have a current RSA certificate if you serve any form of alcohol at any tyoe of venue. (excluding BYO restaurants) |

Does that mean they are descriminating facebook users?? So my space is ok but face book is not. Same kinda thing isnt it??? |

Saw this on Extra or something while I was on holidays, the owner seems like a total jerk.
Even tried doing the soup nazi thing near the end. |

What's the big deal? He owns the place, he can decide who eats there. What a pointless story.

What a tosser, just another case of people trying to cram their way of life down peoples throats. Why open up a business like that if you don't want people talking, it's almost like a pub that banned footy talk.

Why open up a business like that if you don't want people talking, it's almost like a pub that banned footy talk. Are you mad? I'm sure there's lots of people that would go to places like that specifically because of those sorts of policies. Fact: people like different things. The more establishments that cater to different tastes, the better. If you want to be able to talk about Facebook, you can go to any of the other 34,031,105 cafes in the same suburb that are social networking-agnostic. |

Fact: people like different things. The more establishments that cater to different tastes, the better. It is called freedom of speech, I know some people don't like it but hey I have this crazy belief people can say whatever they want whenever they want. Don't like the public then don't run a business that it is open to them. If you care about whatever people are talking about around you I think you need to get over yourself and not be so precious. |

Don't like the public then don't run a business that it is open to them. private establishments can do what they want can't they? in this case it's pretty clear that the cafe is not open to the general public, it's only open to those who won't talk/use facebook. |

It is called freedom of speech...and it's part of America's constitution (but you won't find it in Australia's)... |

Are you mad? I'm sure there's lots of people that would go to places like that specifically because of those sorts of policies. Bahahaha what? What the f*** are you doing listening to other people's conversations anyways? Why would you pick a cafe just because of what teh other patrons talk about? IMO, this is like the Regatta starting up down the street from the RE. RE - the cafe where you can talk about whatever you want, whenever you want, Regatta, the "classy" pub where you can talk about whatever you want, as long as it's not Facebook. DYSWIDT? |

I laughed after a Manager fired (figurative straw on the camels back so to speak) someone who challenged them about blocking facebook/myspace etc despite being told many times they were there to work, not surf the web.....
Wish I had time to surf the web while I wsa working :( |
