Every time I go out onto my deck, my neighbour closes his window and pulls the blinds. Not all of them, just the one I can see into. WTF! How-f***ing-rude. Like I would sit down on my deck in the afternoon with Father O’Leary and settle in for a nice evening of looking through their f***ing window. It’s a share house filled with new age hippies that play experimental instrumental music that seriously could be created with two wine bottles and a tea spoon. Every time I have mates over, they like to let them know how pathetic their music is and I think it’s created some tension. I see them as f***ing hippies, they see me as the kid who gave them s*** in school.

Anybody been at war with their neighbour discreetly or outright?

You sound like a worse neighbour than they do. I wouldn't want people having a deck that looked into my place. Not to mention have to put up with f*****s who think they are cool by calling me a hippy and making out they are better than me.

As for dramas, yes, we have had issues with our neighbours. It involves trees and sewage pipes. Home ownership sure does have it's downsides. Not to mention who ever came up with mediation sucks balls

Highgate Hill.

You have no idea, Kat. I personally have never shown any hostility towards them. However, I wouldn't make a blatant point of closing my windows and blinds when the person on the other side just happens to be able to see through my window IF HE CHOOSES to.

Now think of it from this perspective. You on your deck one afternoon enjoying the quiet when all of a sudden CLICKITY CLICK CLICK CLACK REPEAT for the next half hour.

It takes half an hour to close some blinds? Must be a huge window.

its probably their smoking room or whatever their choice of substance is.

something doesnt make sense to me. you are bitching cause your neighbours dont want you peeping or prying into their lives. despite their music (which is may not be your cup of tea) is personal preference. much like your choice of music or choice of drink or your lifestyle is not other peoples choice.

have a re-think perhaps and if you are so interested in their lives why not go take some fresh scones over and introduce yourself. it seems strange you are complaining about someone keeping to themselves when its clear you or your mates are being anti-social and sledging their choice of what they wish to do or listen to.

maybe im missing something.

no never had dramas with neighbours. nothing a bit of confrontation or dialog cant fix anyways.

You see, I think they're the ones being pretentious.

I would never even glimpse through their window, which is why I'm offended. I don't want me being on my deck to be an inconvenience to them nor should they BLATANTLY, not discreetly, make it seem like it is.
Yes, minor issue. I never said I was going to kill anybody over it. Which is what I intended this topic to be about. Minor, silly, trivial disputes with neighbors.

i love my neighbours

they run a street xmas party, and are awesome

unless of course you are talking about the other neighbours, they are amway queen bees, although we already dealt with them in a previous life

ooooh, and i think my other neighbour just split up with his wife, i was spying out of my computer room window at them the other morning (she was once in her underwear, so ive spent a fair bit of time spying on them) and a moving truck turned up and took half their stuff away, still see the guy there, but not the missus

Which suburb are you in, Spook? I'll move over there and enjoy your street party when I'm not looking through your window.

Why do you care? really? Who gives a s*** if they don't want you looking into their house? It's your deck and it's on your land so you have a right to be out on it, if that hampers their plans to smoke weed in the sunlight while remaining indoors then that's their problem.

I'm half with kat and half with that other dude in that you sound like a bit of a prick giving them s*** for how they choose to live, but they sound like they're up to something illegal if they don't want people seeing into their house.

Not necessarily anything illegal.. I sure as hell don't like the idea of people being able to look inside my house (intentionally or unintentionally). What happens if I'm up to shenanigans in the kitchen with a ladyfriend?

That I did not consider!
In my defense guys, can you honestly say that you have never looked at somebody else and thought to yourself "How can you live like that?"

Then you close the windows/blinds before the act, these guys are closing them every time someone is out and able to see inside which makes me think they've got something to hide or are probably just paranoid alien abductees :tinfoilhat:

Yes, every time I drink my cognac from my $5000 crystal dinner set while eating lobster in my $5000000 a year house.

Of course not, what kind of high and mighty f***** passes judgement on other peoples living styles?

It is entirely your choice to be offended.

Perhaps they are introverted people that like their privacy. Perhaps they feel uncomfortable with the mere thought that someone can see into their living space. Instead of having a cry about it and bitching, they do the POLITE thing and close their blinds. They have the right to feel comfortable in their own home.

They are doing nothing deliberate to insult you. You are simply taking something they are doing for their own privacy reasons and spinning it into an insult. Perhaps you have issues you need to deal with.

Again, don’t misconstrue what I’m saying. The point of this thread was intended to be humorous. Banter about trivial bulls*** problems that sometimes come up between two neighbors. I’m not more likely to start a war with them than I am to take over a bottle of rum and get to know them. That’s what I would ideally like to do, but as it stands, there's unspoken tension between us over trivial bulls***.

Can you relate <--- What this thread was ideally about.

gee, I wonder why there's so much unspoken tension, maybe because you're a pretentious asshat who thinks you're better than they are sipping pina coladas out on your deck wearing a robe made from the skins of baby tigers while you look down on everyone beneath you?

its hard for people to understand cause its a kind of "you have to be there" thing. so i'll take your word for it; that its a deliberate message designed to annoy you, fair enough. but why would they do that? you mentioned your freinds insulted them. I'd start there and go sort it out. hippies are good freinds to have. pretty soon you'll have all the free bees wax candles, eucalyptus oil and pot you could ever want.

The funny thing is, they live better than I do.
I'm a 21 year old full time student living off next to nothing in a small house with one other person, they're 25-30 living in a share house and there's a few of them. The deal with the window is that they slam it shut, they don't just close it.. They slam it and pull the blinds after a few minutes of being out there. If they just closed it, I wouldn't even notice. It's the SLAMMING that gets my attention. This is not a bitch! It's an observation on how one little altercation can lead to all out war between neighbors if it's allowed, the altercation being my friends shouting about their music.

Not a single person here can honestly say that they haven't thought they were better than somebody else and that's natural as far as I'm concerned.

a neighbour slamming his blinds shut in an obviously hostile fashion probably would be slightly annoying

like, "what's up your arse"

then i'd possibly go have a cup of tea or a sandwich
