Just incase theres iinet peeps on here that aren't aware...

I really don't know what to think and I'm not even with iinet. Giving out unlimited usage is a bit insane imo their service is going to get absolutely smashed.

Sure people will have Christmas day lunches/dinners etc with their families but its pretty easy to queue up a load of stuff the night before...

Cool, so if you're syncing at 20Mbps, you can pull 170GB that day.

I wish iiNet would put more resources into making their ADSL1 plans not suck.

You won't get full DL speeds. The links are going to be completely saturated by mass nerd leaching.

I do big extended family breakfast, lunch, dinner and could still easily fit time in for tf2 or whatever. BIG DEAL.

doing stuf with family doesn't take the whole day. and even so, you've got most of the morning to kill.

I know the example im about to give is a different ISP, but i feel it is relevant none the less.

I think it was somewhere to 3-5 years ago just before Bigpond introduced the 10GB* Cap plans. Bigpond announced that over the weekend, all usage would be unmetered -> This was them testing their network to see if they could feasibly provide the larger quota plans. Anyway IIRC, over that weekend the quality of service was pretty much the same as it usually was.

I see both sides of the coin here but I'm a bastard. I won't be playing games on the 25th so I'll part of the problem. Mirroring gentoo portage and source repos for openmoko at 1.4mb/s. mmm

sorry to anyone who wanted to use their iinet connection for games on the 25th. You should complain to them.

iinet are pretty cluey, im sure they will have some sort of QoS set up so everything does just grind to a halt.
