Hi Guys,

My current HP PDA Phone (RW6828) is giving me the s***s. After I use the headset my speaker and microphone stop working. It's like the phone hasn't detected that the headset has been removed.

ATM I am thinking of the Nokia N95 8GB or the Dopod C858 Pro.

I'd just like your thoughts on the phones out on the market at the moment and what kind of experiences you have had with them.

iphone won't be supported by most corp. networks as it currently only supports IMAP for retreiving emails.

he didnt mention anything about exchange/pop3 support
you can get imap interfaces for exchange and google uses imap, so worst case you can setup a forwarding rule on your exchange system to forward alerts/pages to a google address and have your phone use imap to check them

either way, they're so hot right now - zoolander

Don't buy an iphone until they have 3rd party application support, imo. You can do so much more with Windows Mobile its not even funny.

I've just got one of the managers here a HTC TyTn II. It absolutely rocks. Excellent phone, slide out KB, push exchange (so easy its not funny), built-in GPS and map software, Quad band 3G/HSDPA, runs windows mobile 6. I've used this thing to remotely admin work servers and run citrix applications, its awesome. I don't know of another device on the market that has such a full gambit of features.

Vote for iPhone. Best to wait until they hit Australia though than hacking one from O/S.

New iphones can't be hacked without getting a sim card insert and chopping the corner off your sim (they cost like 150$ and are extremely hard to get right now).... so yeah, not worth it atm :P

HTC TyTn II.

I have a HTC Kaiser / HTC TyTN II and it has seduced several people away from IPhone mania after i pimped it.

I still have to get mobile email setup for where i work but about the only thing i've heard it doesn't support is the funky cisco "route-your-mobile-calls-through-UCCE" wireless stuff. And thats mostly because its a cisco-nokia initiative. And it wasn't actually "Your phone doesn't support it" as "I think it is only supported on the Nokia E-Series".

If you go a TyTN II, i'd suggest getting it through xda-developers.com. Sure you get a US power adapter instead of an AU one but last i saw it saved you over $400 (I got mine for $800 including 3-day postage). It might have been re-priced re: US currency but i doubt it.

But it comes down to what you want from a phone.

If you want a computer with a modern phone attached to it, get a TyTN II.

If you want an IPod with a 5 year old phone attached to it, get a IPhone.

Billy has iphone blinders on! Compared to an "open" device running Windows Mobile (and f*** me, Windows mobile isn't even all that - I'm hanging out for Android and some of the other developments that are happening in the open source mobile platform arena), the iphone is nothing more than a pretty half-assed phone that you can also play music on.

My 3 year old ipaq running WM5 kicks the s*** out of my ipod touch in terms of things I can do with it. I get the feeling apple are going to try to f*** people as long and hard as they can by limiting the crap out of the ipod touch/iphone, until they have to cave and open it up because of commercial pressure.

I've got one, had it for a while now. I use it for Tom Tom and it's pretty good. It can get slow when you have a lot of progs open so watch that, probably the only downside, oh and no 3G.
