No one happens to have any serious connections in the music industry... or say... sleeps with the owner of Sony, plays golf with the manager of EMI or is the love child of someone else as equally important?

just wondering... (wink wink, nudge nudge)

If you need a recording label its sometimes better to invest in a good home setup depending on how serious you are about making music. Doesnt cost a lot to setup a good software based home studio now thanks to powerful computers.

I dont know much about getting a distributer yet, after our band finishes recording a CD and we try getting a distributer ourselves I will let you know.

Get a demo CD made, go crazy with photoshop to make it look good and send it out to every local/national radio station along with a covering letter giving all your contact details, band bio etc (presentation helps - spellcheck the bugger!). Same deal with record companies but for the biggies it is hard to get heard.

Play as much as you can, offer your songs to film makers/TV etc and try and get a following at Uni bars and especially under age gigs (it is where alot of the money is, hence where alot of A&R people can be found).

And try calling the labels you are interested in, find out who it is you need to talk to and keep ringing them until they listen to your demo. Unfortunately the main deciding factor is often just publicity or blind luck though :/

Even though I'm a little guy cause of mates I have quite a few connections with music stuff in Brisbane (or at least know how to organise a run in), but most of these are more industrial people.. If you want someone to pick you up I suggest keep doing gigs like you are, and send off a demo to something such as rave magazine, from that your music will either start raging out like a bushfire.. or fizzle

I have a nuber of music connections:
Powerhouse studios sydney (know owner)
Big Day Out (i know the producer, might get backstage passes)
Home Bake (know producer, nice lady, might be able to play there one day)
Tripple J (know a few people there)

If you want your band to be on the radio, the best way is to send a cd into tripple j, if they like it, a few songs might be played on one of the upcomming band shows.
Just pimp your CD to producers like theres no tomorrow.

while we're here, anyone there have a band, and a vocalist who is willing to record on a demo cd (not for record companys) with a hard rock/metal band in a few weeks? we've got it all together jus need a vocalist to sing on the recording till we get our own.
