Nintendo have proudly announced that the Wii has sold over 100,000 consoles in Australia - becoming the fastest console to hit that number.

I was so close to buying one yesterday but it was too f***ing cold to head out so I played WoW instead. Only wanna buy one for party type games, I don't care about the stuff you see across every platform so I think when that Carnival Games one gets a release I'll grab one then.

I am happy with my Wii purchase.

Its a bit dusted at the moment, as I haven't bought any new games for a while (dammn you Mortgage!), but its good to see that a few more good titles have come out!

Man, I've barely touched mine since the first week of January. Really seems like a very wasted purchase.

I love Nintendo, but if I had to decide between a 360 and a Wii I would get a 360...thankfully I don't have to make that choice as I have both :D

Yeah same here :( I do believe if I had more games this may be a different story but I'm over the novelty of the console.

My current inability to use it has a lot to do with having a broken collarbone and broken opposite hand, hence, not being able to wave my arms around like a crazy mofo.

But even before doing that it wasn't getting used.

The Wii we have has been used about 6 times since January. I bought an Xbox 360 a month ago and its got more playtime on it than the Wii which I got in November last year - I find it really boring and simplistic I guess.

i bought my wii as just a bit of light entertainment for when we have guests over. it was never going to be a console that i saw myself playing daily. as such i still see it as money well spent. i just wish they would release more sporty titles...

$150 cash, plus pickup. Message :D

I'm getting a Wii over a 360. One of the big reasons is that if you look at the 360 most games are as violent as depressed emo kid at an American school. With little choice away from that. The Wii on the other hand is much more varied and still seems to harbour the true spirit of gaming :D

Viva Pinata is the most non-depressing game I think I've ever played, its too happy for me to safely consume. Even when something bad happens, like one of your pinatas dies, they crack open and fun, happy candy spills out everywhere! Its so goddamn happy!

heh thats kind of why i liked it so much, the quirkyness of pinatas being living things. though i think they tried so hard selling it as a franchise that it kind of ruined it.

Have you seen the charger stand thing they sell at JB for it. It's like $45 and you get 2 chargeable batteries and a stand charger. Haven't seen them being used though.....

The one my brother bought has to be plugged into the Wii for power. No wall adapter.

So it only charges when the Wii is on, when you actually need your controller! WTF, useless.

(And no we're not going to leave a console on, heating up .. just to charge batteries)

There's a decent Samsung batter + charger pack at Dick Smith's for $30. Comes with 4 long life nimh AA's and a charger.

Works great with the wiimotes.

My nephew has them and they are pretty good. If I played my Wii more I'd probably get them but I already spent over $600 on it and don't play, so the minister for finance would smackt me the f*** down if I wanted to spend more money on it.

Been tempted to get a charger like this, will also mean i'm less likely to loose the wiimotes as well.

Like most other Wiimote chargers it replaces your long-life AA batteries with AAA batteries (with adapter so they will fit).

Also you have to leave your Wii on for it to charge. I read somewhere about Connect24 or something that can leave the Wii in a low-power state (7 watts), allowing you to run chargers off it when not fully running.

Nailbomb: I bought exactly that model off that E-Bay guy on Monday, so I'm expecting start of next week. I'll report back on it when I get it.

As for the people complaining you need you Wii on to charge it, there's two things to consider - I put mine in standby which would charge it, and two, it's a USB charger, so I'm just going to plug it into my computer.

I also agree that there's been a bit of a gaming drought, but I jsut bought Strikers, so I'm a little occupied at the moment. One of my friends who has a 360 was complaining about a bit of a drought for that, and so we both had a deep, mournful cry for several hours and then got over it.

At the moment, in my view, the top Wii games are:

Super Paper Mario
Resident Evil 4
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Mario Charged Football
Scarface

The GF enjoys Pirates (OTC) and is about to start on Sims 2 Pets.

I like my Wii and nintendo first party stuff, but in typical nintendo style the games library is crap and it doesn't look to be improving any time soon.

The 360 library already is looking solid and a few additions to it in the future make it a must buy for me (eventually).

Out of the PS3, Wii and X360, the 360 has been out the longest by quite a margin, Although the PS3 was released in Australia LAST, the Wii is the newest on the scene. Given how long its been out, you'd expect the 360 to 'already' have a mature library of titles.

I think that game developers expected the new gen to be fought between the 360 and the Ps3, much like the PS2 and the original XBox. Hence not a lot of 3rd party dev. houses bothered to give the Wii a lot of thought, expecting t to bomb like the gamecube.

The fact that the Wii is rapidly catching up on the X360 in terms of console sales hasn't escaped devs. Hell, even Square Enix is looking at Nintendo again after years of sexing it with Sony. Devs will go wherever the market's console install base is, and at the moment that's 360 followed by Wii, with Ps3 lagging well behind.

There has been alot of games come to the wii that have been rushed remakes and ports that realy are crap. Ive played about 15 different games on the wii and I reckon only 5 or 6 are actualy good.

Super Paper mario, Mario Strikers, NFL 2007 and Zelda are all awesome.

Excite truck and heatseeker are also not too bad, but get boring quickly.

I must admit that there hasnt been a game made that realy uses the controller as well as Wii sports does, NFL 2007 does it quite well, but Wii sports is realy just the best.

Its so obvious the type of games that need to be made, Surely nintendo or other game companys must realise this. for example,

1. Any game using a light saber
2. Cricket
3. New mario kart that doesnt suck and has online play and the ability to use classic type controls.
4. More advanced versions of Wii sports games.

People dont want to play ports/remakes of xbox/ps2/gamecube games that have tacked on wii controls. They want to play games that are made just for the Wii, and if anything, ported back to xbox/ps2/3.

I find all the Mario and Zelda games piss-boring. They were cool when I was like .. 12, now I see them as nothing more than kids games.

I guess the only thing keeping me interested in the Wii is Tiger Woods PGA Tour, for the [relative] realism.

I would have thought that only 30% of games were worth buying anyway, regardless of platform. There's just so much tripe out there :(

Dude, you've got no idea.

Wii is a party console, its cool if you're playing games with your friends... but in REALITY, there is no competition between Wii / 360 & PS3. Wii has no depth, and the fact that there has been no update to video quality between generations is really lame.

I can see the merits of a Wii as a party console, but as a console you actually sit down and play serious games on, they don't work.

what about,

Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime
Paper Mario
Zelda
Resident Evil 4
Mario Strikers
Zakk and wiki.

But yes, the 360 has more games of high quality, but they are totally different style of games. I prefer the games on the wii, and alot of the xbox games are pc games aswell.

Why would they drop the price? The thing still sells stupidly well at the $348-399 mark and not to mention the whole "almost sold out for the second Christmas running" thing as well.

Plus any of the above less than $60?

Yup, they can develop cheap titles and make lots of money selling to the lowest common denominator.
My preference...

#1: PC
#2: 360
#3: PS3
#4: Mac
#5: Wii

Wii is nifty. My gaggle of kids are loving it, so a good purchase all round. I'd like to play RE4 on it though to see if it can do cheesy and hardcaw.

I also like the downloading of MegaDrive games for $7.50 each and the trading of Miis and stuff. That's pretty cool too. Also, this is the first console I've had that has been "online"....
