$550 Pre-Order per unit.

$1650 for a 2TB RAID5 is quite impressive.

$550 for a 1Tb drive is damn good given how much the 750's were when they came out. Still I'd steer clear of the deathstar and wait for a seagate version.

I remember scuzzy posted ages ago a small enclosure thing that you could chuck in 2 drives and run them (I think via USB) in RAID or something. Does anyone know anything like that?

I need to massively increase my backup storage available; my email alone is up to around 5gb and my work docs and other data stuff like my photos and mp3 collection continues to grow unabated. I want to be able to do incremental and periodic snapshots of a bunch of s*** and I really need lots of space, so I was thinking about grabbing one of those enclosure things and chucking in a few 500gb drives.

the network-attached ones for home users are starting to get pretty decent, this double SATA drive dealie from D-Link that supports striping, mirroring, or spanning the disks, and has GB lan and some other neat features

course it's byo disks, the unit itself is like $300 but for what it can do that's not all bad

That looks cool but it's a bit more hardcore than what I was after really - I just want something that I can throw disks in, plug in via USB and bam, another USBN drive.

that list of apparently unsupported drives is interesting ara, even if it is a couple of years old

They used glass platters which gave them no end of grief in the end...

ara, that looks perfect, though as jim says the unsupported drives is a little weird. I'm sure the retailer will be able to tell me what drives will work with it though AMIRITE?

CA have a few other thecus products which look a little beefier, including 4 and 5 HDD versions (looks like it might be aight for the office jim :)

from their website re: the 2050

HDD Capacity 80/120/160/200/250/300/400/500GB and above

I would say the link on AusPcMarket's website is just out of date.

I was after one for Raid-5, and it was f***ing retardedly expensive so I didn't bother, This is the newer version of that product: http://tinyurl.com/295tmv
