EA have announced the company's financial results for the last quarter and also the the previous financial year. The bad news is they're down around US$28 million from the same time last year, a decrease which they're attributing "to the transition to next generation systems". The good news though is that their profits are up - this financial year saw a $1.879 billion (yes, with a b) profit - up six percent from last year.

Also especially interesting is that their digital revenue was a record $127 million - up 47 percent from last year.

$1.87b profit, and they still keep overworking and underpaying employees.

you don't make profits by writing cheques!

(cue bill gates in the simpsons bit)

as much as i don't really like EA, i wouldn't mind a share of their money

just remember kiddies, if you didn't pirate games then their profits would actually be worth something, not just a meazley $1.8bn. come on, i mean, what can you do with that kind of money?

moral of the story, which is more moral, big corporations stealing more than they deserve from employees/customers or a few kiddies pirating need for speed?

Fixed.. I'll brb - have to run down to Kmart so I can give EA my money for C&C3 to make their profits $1,879,000,099.95.

yeah I don't understand that bit either...

K-Mart already bought the game... at least it's counted as being bought and payed for by the chaps in the distribution channel. Whether or not anyone actually walks into the stores and pays retail for it has little to do with the numbers the distribution guys present to the guys upstairs @ EA.

it's the same for top-40 music these days isn't it?

they don't steal anything - employees agree to an amount, and customers agree to pay a sticker price

if noone walks into the stores and pays retail, do you think kmart will buy the game from EA again, or the next game?. retail sales are the ONLY real value the people upstairs at EA care about, because they're in the business of selling games, not tricking retailers into buying a game one-off and then closing down EA

OMG these Bastards delayed Spore until 2008!
Well, in reality it was probably Maxis who wanted more time, but I'm going to choose to blame EA this time since they're the front man :D

If EA are making this much money, imagine how much vivendi make with blizzard pumping out game and expansion sales, plus the monthly fee.

maybe if there wasn't so much pirating, games wouldn't cost 100$ each and they could still make their profit targets.

Given the chance they'll suck every penny out of you, whether there's pirating or not.
