Hey, I'm looking at buying a nano and before you say there's better players out there and there probably are, I don't want a player with video and i don't want one too big. I just want a small player that doesn't skip and can fit heaps of music.

So I've done a bit of research from websites and some forums and reviews but I'd rather get some feedback from some actual users. I know a few ppl on here have em and I have a few questions.

Any problems with playback, sound quality and/or apple service?

I've heard ppl say the batteries never reach their supposed 24hrs of play as well. Can anybody support this?

Can you still get a student discount or is there somewhere best to buy? Because as I've seen everyone has the set prices.

My main concern is that it says you need usb 2.0 and I only have the normal usb ports. So is there any way around this like using the ipod dock or do I have to update?

And finally, what are the best accessories? I know I need to buy a transmitter for the car. Anybody have a favourite like Belkin/Grifin/eWave2/Airplay2? And are FM transmitters best through usb or headphones jack? Is the only diff usb charges?

Any opinions on the usb power adaptor or the dock?

And what headphones are you using? Sony/Sennheiser?

I know I have heaps of questions so thanks in advance for any replies.

I uss these headphones.... http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx

They are specifically designed for ipods...

Battery life is nowhere near they state... I have a 30gb ipod video

NFI about the usb requirements, BUT, they only charge via USB, so i'd say that'd be why they want USB2? that adn the data transfer rate would be s***ty on USB1

Or get something better. But that would require individual thought.

While they may have changed it for the latest generation, I only have USB 1.0 ports and my IPOD 4G (I think) connects just fine. The transfer is obviously just fine. If you know somebody with the latest generation, test connecting it to your computer to see if the "Must have USB 2.0 ports" is true.

I use Sennheiser HD212 pros with my iPod. Sound great & block out all the noise on the bus / phones @ work etc...

Hey thanks guys for the helpful responses. Yeah, my pc is from early 2002. It was kinda decent back then but now is probably well behind par.

apple has a handy site explaining why battery life is sometimes not as good as estimated and what you can do to make it better, cbf finding the link

the major power use (skipping songs a lot leading to increased hard disk use) would seem not to apply to the solid state nano, so f***s me what else it could be, perhaps their idea of volume is unrealistically low

Or get something better. But that would require individual thought.

what's better than the ipod in terms of features

apart from stuff like playing formats like wma or ogg which no one uses
