A demo for Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars has been released, showcasing some of the action in what'll probably be one of the most anticipated strategy games of the year. Download it locally from AusGamers.

The C&C series has always pushed the boundary with storage.

I think C&C came on one CD whereas only tech-demo games like Sherlock Holmes came on CDRom at that stage.

C&C 2 was the first mainstream game to come on two CDs

With that in mind i wouldn't be suprised if they went out and made C&C3 2xDuallayer DVDs :-)

This is the first (that I can recall) game in the series that Frank Klepacki hasn't done the music :(

Tiberium Dawn is my #1 game of all time - I was hoping this would have heaps of remixs of the original music (ie, Rain in the night, Radio, Demolition, Act on Instinct, C&C Thang etc).

While it's a (minor) hit to your performance, there's nothin stopping you from putting the music on mute, and queuing up an MP3 playlist of all the music from C&C and RA. :D

(The guy who scored C&C3 also does the incidental music for Desperate Housewives :P )

This demo is great. Made me forget all the crapness and unfun of C&C2.

Roll on end-of-march.

PS. Is it me, or did they screw up the Ion Cannon? Eye Candy aside, it's too poweful - it shouldn't be like the nuke. One of the best things about the first C&C was the two sides were *NOT* carbon-copies of each other.

I say this a lot but it was no company of heroes/DoW. Maybe I am over the old wait for a nuke to count down / build 100 mammoth tanks game play.

I was however supremely impressed with the quality of the engine build, the game was totally different to what you come to expect with EA games, ie sluggish and laggy, this was crisp as and looked totally fantastic in the graphics department.

Heh this was the first thing that struck me, and it was the opposite. Even running at 1920x1200 it was still painfully obvious that its the Generals engine with just new effects. The UI is absolutely massive and your view of the battlefield zoomed out as far as it will go still only shows you an extremely small amount of the battlefield. The art department needs big wraps on the work done in the environment and units though, after the blandness that was the SupCom maps and units it looks really good.

To me the bar was raised with DoW and CoH and neither of the 2 new kids on the block come close.

what's the exact size of the file you downloaded, in bytes?
it should be 1,265,430,528

i think the game looks great, but really needs teh ability to zoom out a little bit further. like someone already said, at max zoom its still tooo close to the action.. very hard to organize things when you can end up with an army that fills 3/4 of the screen. i dont think ti would be a difficult thing for them to do though, so maybe we'll see it in a patch.

WFT.

They should ditch the C&C series and just make RA games.

Super Demo pro tip: When selecting team you can play nod by mousing over Nod and pressing 'n'.
Just tried it then

Skirmish only.

I don't think starforce3 was around when they planned this game.

Incase anyone hasn't noticed yet, you can play as NOD and set your opponent to GDI.

Just go to the race select bit, put your cursor over NOD and then hit 'N' on your keyboard. Then left click and it'll switch to NOD. You can use the same method with 'G' to switch the AI to GDI.

Pre-ordered my "Kane Edition" the other day. 5 extra maps, new skins for the troops, the making DVD, as well as a bloopers DVD of all the cut scenes all for the same price.

I noticed that honey that plays 'Cameron' in House makes a few appearances..

it's hardly game of the year material, but it's going to be great fun playing lan and vpn with old mates. it'll be good to see if one can host their own net server without the need for a vpn this time.

generals was a pain in the ass for that

I just had a go at this after forgetting I'd installed it. The mouse buttons are the other way around compared to C&C generals :(

Just as I get used to one C&C game another comes out, will it never end. On the up side, it looks pretty sexy.
