i know some of you are students and probably have a HCC and s*** so i have a question
using it for dental, can you use it at any dentist and get a concessional rate or i've heard there are government dentist you can use and get it free, but there is like a 2 year line to get in the chair. |

dentist work is not covered by bulk billing/medicare. don't be a pov c*** - get private health cover. i have full hospital cover for like $30/week. why rely on beattie for your health? you'd have to be mad... edit: example 1 of how good the benefit is. couple of years back i had to get a cap on a tooth RRP $1800 but for me $0. example 2. i had a root canal 6 months ago RRP 900 but for me $0. IMO health insurance more than pays for itself. last edited by infi at 10:58:08 27/Sep/06 |

While waiting for the GF to finish up at the fashion show at the ekka, I ended up signing up with Medibank Private because they were offering kick ass deals.
I think its worth the money. For me , the big things are dentist, optical and chiropractic (which I might use soon because I simply can :P). Also includes hospital cover etc. Definatly worth the investment, youll save big $$$ in the long run. |

I ended up signing up with Medibank Private because they were offering kick ass deals. My parents are with Medibank so I was on that with the family cover untill I turned 21. I shopped around and couldnt find anything better so I decided to stay on as an independent on the family cover. Ive had a history of health problems so its really been worth it for me. for $60.00 a month I get things like: New glasses every calander year, and if you go witha prefered provided sometimes there is no out of pocket gap, Chriro which only costs $18.00 a visit, Just had over $1000.00 of dental work done which left me out of pocket like $500.00, No out of pocket for day surgery, No out of pocket for overnight hospital stays (tonsils out) Etc etc etc. I know its harder being a student but if youve got the history of problems it can be worth putting out. PS - Dentistry is not covered on alot of things, or if it is theres alof of conditions. Due to the nature and cost, I cant imagine it being something covered on a HCC, not in my experience anyway. |

wow chub, thats some serious grinding!!!Tell me about it... I was drinking custard/yogurt/protein shakes for 7 full days. The surgeon was a champ though and wrote me scripts for morphine, so I literally don't remember my entire week (except the occasional oprah and ready steady cook). I would like private health, but any sort of contract/term payment for a student is something I can't afford. |

I'm in a similar situation to cCaptivate, I'm covered by my dad's private health care cover, but I think mine is good till I'm 24 or 25. Is there any chance of your parents getting private health care any time soon? Maybe you could join up for a few months to score teh dental work then quit. Dental usually takes a month or two to kick in on private though.

i have full hospital cover for like $30/week.You've had $2700 worth of benefit which equates to 90 weeks of payments, if a couple of years is 3, you've paid $4680 for cover... |

That's just the extras. My grandmother went to a private hospital for serious heart bypass whatever surgery and $200,000 later she came out ok.
Do you think she paid for it? No, MBF did. |

How do they justify $200k for a coronary bypass, since it doesn't require any extraordinary equipment, just skill... I wonder how much the operating surgeons gets.

Well it is a private hospital so you're paying out your ass because they care about you and not the success of their business.

what about health care cards and like injections and stuff, i'm going overseas and need a boatload of them, so was wondering if it's worth waiting till i get my healthcare card before looking into it
also is it cheaper just going to the doc with a healthcare card? |

Some doctors who don't bulk bill patients will bulk bill people who have a Health Care card - depends on the individual medical centre.

^ True.
In my experience with doctors (and it being somewhat extensive) in recent years medical centers have really moved away from bulk billing, but they'll do it in a heartbeat for anyone with a health care card. Dirty Mo Fos. Anyway, not sure about injections but you pay s*** all for subscriptions. |
