OK I have these files that are in aiff format which I am led to believe from all the searching I have been doing lately is some form of mac archived file format.

What I believe they are is some sound files I have been trying to extract and convert to wav or mp3 for a while now with no help from the net whatsoever in regards as to how it is done (the files are legal as they are downloaded from the publishers site for free).

Every program that apparently should do it so far that I have tried has failed miserably classing the file as an unknown format and so after some fairly extensive (if blind as I am no techy by any streatch of the term) research I now turn to the good people at the QGL forums to see if anyone has any experience with this file format to give me an idea of what to do or to tell me just how far off the mark my research has been.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the subject :).

iTunes should open it fine, and then right-click and 'Convert Selection to MP3'.

aiff is indeed a mac format, therefore no one cares :)

This is the message I get from Itunes when I try to import one of the files (I tried them all and they all say the same thing).

The file "1.aiff" cannot be imported An unknown error occurred (-50).

OK I tried updating my itunes with all the crap extras they wanted and it still keeps telling me its not a recognized file even when it comes up as an itunes file (odd that one) but I am getting a weird error message now saying the track in the "video" file isnt recognized ... this may be the problem unfortunately :/.

I am currently trying soundforge out and will see how I go, thanks for the help so far guys :).

Yep winamp and Audacity were the first two I tried along with an earlier version of itunes and quicktime and no joy with any.
I think the overwhelming consensus of data would point to the files not being what they should be.

It's good to see that I was on the right track with programs, for a moment there I thought I wasn't using them right or something but if 0% of them even recognize any of the files then they must be the prob.
