They've been showing that quite a bit recently on SBS. I've seen it on a couple nights.

Caught tonights episode.
Was awesome stuff.
Pretty cool knowing what everything is and being able to identify it all.
Some of it's just crazy hard to follow on the actual dissection compared to the plastic and diagram versions taught with though.
It's all pink fleshy stuff and blends together on cam till he pulls it out

Shall be watching next week.

Yeah, it's a lot different learning anatomy from a text book or plastinated specimen compared to a cadaver, that's for sure. And when you're in the operating theatre and you have your hands in someone's abdomen and the surgeon is saying "what's that you're holding there, student?" you're grateful for the face-mask you're wearing so the doctors can't see the expression of fear on your face :0

I saw Gunther's plastinated exhibition when I was in London 5 years ago. Amazing stuff. He had siliconed human dissections riding dissected horses. Crazy and creepy.

^ Yeah f*** that, I'm glad I aint no surgeon.

Maybe it would be easier if you were actually doing the dissection and could move things around to actually look for something but yeah, f*** that. :P
I'd rather not have to try to piece someone back together.
Scrape it off the pavement, no problemo, identifying it in tiny pieces, no thx.

Leave that to the crazy surgeons thx :P

What an absolutly bitchen series. I thought it would be the digestive tract this week.

How crazy are those plastinated vien systems. All the blood vessels in the body laid out in three dimensions.

Also is it just me or are those warnings about "I hope your not eating now" pointless. I could happly eat my dinner watching that or most other suitably gross things. I have only ever felt queazy once watching that sort of thing, it was a video of a guy who had been shot in the groin and the blood from the artery was spraying rythmically across the room.

yep. bigtime cool series. watching the doco on plastination that sbs has played a few times is interesting enough, but these 2 shows so far have been simply incredible.

And yea, that body shaped display of purely blood vessles and veins is just unbelievable! Hear how he was saying that he did that by transfusing a polymer through the circulatory system, then dissolving all the flesh with enzymes n s***. Just truly amazing.

They brought that plastination exhibition to australia but the nutjobs got a heap of items pulled, so the version shown in australia was cut down, and according to me Mrs was completely s*** compared to the London exhibit since they left out a lot of the good stuff.

Yeah, that's cos they just get pigs' hearts from the local butcher.

With human cadavers they embalm the bodies first using formaldehyde so that u don't have that problem (well, unless u accidentally dissect into the intestines...).

i went to an abbatoir once during my law studies (long story) and discovered that the disection of fresh bodies is surprisingly clean smelling.

with the cadavers i can understand why the use the preservatives though.

Apparently scraping the old poo out of the deceased's lower gastrointestinal tract is still pretty stinky despite the formaldehyde fixing. And stomach contents are never good.

So my wife tells me anyway :/
