Someone File Requested this and I thought it might be of interest:
MediaCoder is a free universal audio/video batch transcoder, putting together lots of excellent audio/video codecs and tools from the open source community into an all-in-one solution, capable of transcoding among different audio/video formats with many extra features.

Feature Highlights:

* Converts among many audio and video compression formats and re-mux into various container formats, on the fly, in batches
* Give you the control over all the parameters of your converted file
* A flexible device plug-in infrastructure brings specific interfaces for specific devices
* No need to install any media player, filter or codec, no registration of any components into your system - it simply doesn't touch your system
I just had a quick bash converting an HD quicktime to Xvid and it worked fine.

As with anything like this that uses proprietary algorithms without proper licensing (ie, this includes Xvid codecs, which is probably technically an illegal codec in any country that respects software patents, as well as FFMpeg code which is in the same boat), so use at your own risk.

Cool. Any luck going the other way around? (xvid to quicktime/h.264?) I'm thinking of buying an iPod video just so I can watch The Daily Show on the train :)

hmm, no - you can convert to h264 no worries, it seems, but it doesn't support writing to the QuickTime container format (at least, not that I can see).

Raven,

Can't you just download The Daily Show from itunes?

It says so in an advert during the credits when broadcast on foxtel.

nats, you would think, but those bastards with their regional downloads only let you if you're in the US.

I just tried running this. I get an error "The connection was refused when attempting to contact 127.0.0.1:8109" WTF is it doing? Any ideas?

I used this to convert Deadwood into Mp4's so I can watch them on my phone. Awesome quality but only 15fps. I'll def be using it to convert other shows and movies for my phone when I'm bored.

ET your stupid over zealous firewall is probably blocking the loop back httpd it seems to use for its setup wizard. Add it to exceptions and you'll probably have more luck with it...

Hm. I'm trying to encode the US GP at the moment, but I need to crop and resize the video. It's saved as 720x576, but it's animorphic, so needs to be 1024x576. I then need to crop it to be something like 720x576. Problem is, the output file doesn't honour the cropping, only the sizing, so I still end up with a 14:9 video.

Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind, got it sorted out now I think.

Here's another problem for you though:

Using DivX 6 I was encoding at about 50fps earlier today. With Xvid, I'm only managing about 20fps.
Xvid is only using about 50% of CPU0 and 75% of CPU1 - any ideas how I make it a bit more effective?

thats weird, went to run it again to check the port number ect, and it just worked. Hmmm

It seems that when you do a bulk/batch encode, the 'crop video' field isn't shared across all files in the set, nor is it saved in profile xml files. No idea if this behavior is intentional or if it's a bug, but for me it's danm annoying.

Be careful of this one if you record into multiple parts (like I do).

He's trying to claim that because software is adware, it can't also be considered opensource (which of course isn't true). It's still open.

After trog let us know about this awesome application a few months ago, I've been using it ever since. I decided to have a little fun with it thisafternoon though: I installed XP and MediaCoder under Parallels, and proceeded to use a Virtual Machine to encode using two CPUs as one virtual CPU. Neat as :D

My nenxt little project is to try to get The 7th Guest running under FreeDOS under Parallels :D
