Hi longtime without a post but this seems the first logical place for me to ask this question.
I need to buy something that allows me to connect to webservers and ftps that makes the sites appear i'm coming in from Australia as opposed to China, it can't be a public proxy as these are all shut off by the powers that be. If you guys could reply here or email me at timimit-at-gmail.com that'd be helpful. I ask for the email because it's possible this post might triggeer censors and end up with me being unable to connect to qgl. Thanks Tim |

The censorship does get annoying here sometimes. I thought you were in Hong Kong though? Does the Chinese government censor things there aswell?

I'm in Guangzhou, this isn't really a censorship issue more to do with work (poker) and sites giving me a hassle because i'm not connecting from the my address (I still use my Australian address as it's more convenient for other things).

You'll probably get dragged out into the street and shot for trying to evade their censorship measures.
That's how it works over there right? Why not have a family member/friend run something for you? |

Well that could be a short fix yes, but is somewhat difficult to explain to someone else and not what i'm really looking for.

Purchase a Windows dedicated server from any number of companies in the US - then just RDP onto it and surf as much as porn as you want.

short answer no, long answer, get yourself a hosting solution that allows full shell access and you can install cgi-proxy program (something similar to this: http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/) then just point your browser at the proxy script. That is, if the chinese hasn't blocked the ISP of your choice already......

Probably cost in the vicinity of US$40-60 depending on what server hardware you want.

If you do get a proxy server up, you can probably charge people or work something out.

Best solution would be a tunnel. Tunnel into a box in Australia and all your traffic will get sent via that machine. A linux box in Australia, poptop and mppe patch for pppd is all you need. |
