Microsoft held their press conference today to pimp their wares; while I wasn't expecting much in the way of big news I was very impressed to hear that they've secured Grand Theft Auto 4 for a simultaneous release with its PlayStation counterpart - giving gamers one less reason to need a PlayStation system. The Xbox 360 version will also feature exclusive new episodic content available via Xbox Live. Yowza!

For me their really big announcement was Live Anywhere, which Bill Gates - at his first ever E3 - went into some detail about. Basically it is a massive project to allow a really tight level of integration between a variety of platforms - Xbox 360, PC (maybe Windows Vista only, not sure yet) and mobile devices.

For those hanging out for Halo 3 information, not much was given - they showed a teaser/trailer which apparently is also available on Xbox Live, but it didn't show any gameplay. It was neat as far as cinematics go (like several of the other titles shown), but hopefully we'll hear more about it in the coming days.

The gauntlet has been thrown down - Microsoft are claiming they're going to have a 10 million unit head start on Sony by the time the PlayStation 3 has shipped. They're up to just over 5 million units shipped, so they're got to crank out some serious sales in the next few months - but I definitely get the impression that're dedicated to hitting this mark, even if it means driving out dump trucks full of Xbox 360 consoles to shopping malls and giving them away.

I wonder with its live "episodic content" if this will be the first game banned in Australia that we won't be able to just pirate and will actually miss out on. Could this be the title that is big enough and un-pirateable enough to get gamers to care about an R rating?

So you are getting the PS3 because you like the CONTROLLER better?

how is xbox360 a disapointment?

what would you like to see / what would you have liked to see that would have made it not a disapointment?

I don't own any console at the moment, but I'll probably look at buying an xbox360 once the PS3/Wii come out.

Acutally couple titles really look great for x360, Gears of War, Lost Planet, Prey , and Street Fighter II on Arcade :P

After seeing some playstation 3 in game video's theres not much diffrence that i can tell between the two systems but ill get ps3 anyways at christmas time.

Uno. I've been playing Uno on my Xbox 360. It's fun.

If you get in the game with people that actually TALK it's awesome! Since playing that game my friends list has gone up from like 1 person to about 8 - there are some pretty awesome guys playing that game.

I bought a 360 at launch and haven't looked back. When I bought my first Xbox I sold it within about a month - so this is a big setup for the Xbox. I think MS really has a big lead over anyone in regards to it's live service - it really is pretty awesome. Nintendo is going to go the way of the "friend codes" for games, and that just s***s me off soooo much. f*** your stupid f***ing friend code system! I'm over 18 if people want to talk to me about sex (and I'm not interested) I'll just ban their arse. They should just have a robust parental system in conjunction with friend codes!

Sony, well Sony is Sony. People will buy it because of the Final Fantasy series, because of Metal Gear Solid. Losing GTA as an 'exclusive' game is going to be a big hit though, especially in the US. I'll get a PS3, but I'll probably wait until it gets cheaper, because FF and MGS won't be out at launch anyway - and I think I can hold off buying the "next gen" singstar game for a while as well.

The fact that Sony has a gryo controller doesn't change anything for me - it's not going to be able to do the things that the Wii can do, so what's the point, it will just end up being a gimmick and probably won't be in many games, or at least used well in many games.
