hey all,
got my great new logitech joystick. Whilst I play Battlefield 2, Freespace 1 and 2, and Wing Commander 3 & 4, i am wondering if anyone knows of any other good flight sim games? im after something with decent-ish graphics (ie sys requirements are NOT 400mhz processor, 2meg graphics and a floppy disc..) something reasonably new. preferably something with combat, as i dont see how travelling between airports can be all that fun, but im willing to try. does microsoft FS 2004 have anything to do with combat? id like something i can practice landing on aircraft carriers etc. thanks in advance |

Lock on is what your after.I've never seen a game look so s*** and yet so good at the same time. Some of those screenshots look pretty good, some look horrible. I can't remember if I played the demo of this or not, I swear when it was first announced I remember following it. Anyway, most fun flight sim I can remember was EuroFighter2000 (I think that was it's name), flying the EF2000, funnily enough. Was awesome flying through some other jet's jetwash and getting screwed up, or getting thrown into a flat spin Top Gun style. Or having both your wings shredded off and becomming a plummeting cylinder of death, bullet holes in the wings and leaking fuel, fly-by-wire getting damaged and not being able to fly for s***. Was a good game for it's time, not sure if the graphics would be up to scratch anymore though. F-22 ADF was another goodie, but not as cool as Eurofighter. this was the EF2000 you flew, somoene might recognise the plane and thus the game :: last edited by Loki at 12:30:38 29/Apr/06 |

Falcon 4.0 remains the holy grail of flying sims, and since the code has been opened up it's been heavily modified for new graphics, custom planes etc. Most flight simulator clubs will point you to it. For something out-of-the-box, IL2 Sturmovik gets my vote too. Enough realism to make it feel like you're flying a plane rather than an afterburner arcade machine, and a slicker interface than F4 since it's newer.
there are some patches to Microsoft simulator 2000 to fly custom battles, but after 9/11 it's all gone underground and bottled up tight. Best to just get into IL2, and if you want more, F4. |
