Unreligious (hard atheist)
Religion should be a personal thing and there should be a clear boundary between the church and the state. No, i'll pass on the dictatorship thing, but good luck with it anyhow. |

Once a world order of democracy is established, I'll gladly hand over reign to democracy
c'mon korbs, you have skills that would be useful and also make your life so much more rewarding ! (I'm pretty sure we could organise a nice spot for you to live in relative comfort afterwards) |

Yes and No depending on the country, if you mean a country like a Australia then yes religion should be kept a persional think because of its multiculuralism. But it all depends on the country/culture

Mmm, true. A lot of societies around the world are pretty much defined by their religion. |

sure you would ;) Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Nats: care to explain this irreligious thing to me ? I would think that you could only be irreligious if you had never heard of religion and had no concept of it.. As soon as you hear about a religion you have to choose either :yes(theist)/no(atheist)/unsure(agnostic) last edited by korbs at 19:15:28 16/Apr/06 |

good luck finding a country where that distinction is made. if you hadn't noticed, all of our 'top' politicians are catholic, prodestant or hillsong church affiliated. and if you think that doesn't effect their decision making (abortion for example) then you are wrong.
if on the other hand you are in effect disagreeing with the situation in say iran where the muslim clerics have the final say on everything then maybe yes it is a good thing. but it all depends on your point of view. |

that would just make him a regular deist (somebody who believes in a higher power -not necessarily one from an organised religion). To say you're 'irreligious' seems like a paradox to me. If you've heard of a religion, then you have to be either a theist, atheist or agnostic. You can't 'un-hear' about it and go back to being ignorant with no concept of it.
but hey, this is just semantic point. Nats probably means he 'just doesn't give a s***' when he says he's irreligious. |

I guess I'm a No.
I believe faith should be personal and organised religion is dodgy, but it does bring people together - but it should not intertwine with government which should be ruled with the head not the heart. And you can't rule the world without religion or some sort of mass hatred against someone your people aren't. |

Place the following faiths in a small room, play musical guns and mix... :D
Muslim Athiest Christian Jew Hindu JW Mormon Add suitable cat fighting noises and submit result to funniest home videos. And yes... each and every one of them is not a religion but "The absolute Truth!!!" lolz signed: The rest of us balanced agnostics. last edited by C0deBasher at 23:20:17 16/Apr/06 |

enjoying life on the fence, eh codebasher ? :P
not to detract from your hi-larious musical guns idea, but atheism isn't a faith. Also, Mormons and JW's are flavours of christianity, not totally separate 'faiths'. last edited by korbs at 23:36:49 16/Apr/06 |

but atheism isn't a faith. he he I got my bite. They're usually the most fanatical and easy to upset of them all. They take a "theory", believe it is "The Truth" and whether it ends up true or not in the long run, that "belief" in that result which they hope for takes "faith". Your right about the JW's though. As for Mormons, hmmm borderline that one. :) last edited by C0deBasher at 23:47:39 16/Apr/06 |

I was just correcting you, incase you were genuinely unaware of the fact.
but well done, consider me baited :P I agree that there are a lot of militant atheists on the net, but until we see an atheist crusade or atheist inquisition, then i would hold off saying we are the most fanatical. edit for:
you'll need to define those words in quotes better if you expect that sentence to make any sense. As it is, you are just stripping the word 'faith' of any relevant meaning, as you could use it to describe anything. according to the above, the statement "i'm sitting here typing on the computer" is a matter of faith. edit 2 for:
Mormons are just normal protestant christians, they just believe there is an 'extra' 3rd testament in the bible about jesus coming to america (no bulls***). They still believe in all the same bible characters. last edited by korbs at 23:54:54 16/Apr/06 last edited by korbs at 23:59:23 16/Apr/06 |

oops, missed this before
wrong. The 'religion' is the institution built around the worship of a deity. Eg. "jesus" isn't a religion, "christianity" is. So if one guy believes in his own home-grown god then he's just a 'deity believer' (deist), nothing more. but when he writes a holy book and convinces a whole bunch of other people to worship the same god (10,000 to be recognised by the government iirc), it becomes a religion. When you really think about it, every religion has exactly one believer, if any. |

I'm curious as to why no body mentioned Satanism in amongst all those other beliefs, there are more of them out there than you might think. Every one seems willing to mention the main stream faiths/beliefs but no one is willing to mention the opposition.

Satanists don't influence my life like Christians do. Anyway Satanists aren't evil criminals or anything like you would believe. It seems to be more a symbol of defiance to the widespread Christian movement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism
The existence of large networks of organized Satanists involved in illegal activities, murder, and child abuse is occasionally claimed, often by fundamentalist religious movements. Those claims have not been substantiated although they are widely believed to be true. |
