Following on from this week's good news that pubilsher Ubisoft was not going to include Starforce in HOMM5 comes this report from 1Up that they're going to be dropping it completely. Good news for gamers! One bad DRM system down, only a few more to go. |

f*** YEAH!!! /backflips!!! We did it!! Holy crap !! As I have mentioned before (not that I really care), you WoW kiddies should take a leaf out of our book an do the same until you get an physical server here in Oz Edit: Now we just have to convince other publishers to do the same. last edited by HERMITech at 11:07:00 14/Apr/06 |

As I have mentioned before (not that I really care), you WoW kiddies should take a leaf out of our book an do the same until you get an physical server here in Oz Why? WoW plays perfectly fine on a cable connection. I very, very rarely get a bad connection on the server I play and even if that happens it's only for a few minutes and even then it's still highly playable. The good thing about WoW is it's not like an FPS where you need accuracy to shoot things. 8-) |

Cause then I wouldn't have to listen to flatmates playing WoW and hearing gay ass yanks speakThere's already oceanic servers for this, but... WoW plays perfectly fine on a cable connection. The good thing about WoW is it's not like an FPS where you need accuracy to shoot things. No, but you need good ping in order to be as effective as others with it. It effects everything from DPS to timing spell interrupts to staying in melee range of someone running - 200-300ping is pretty big in WoW's scope, bigger than alot of shooters I'd venture to suggest. Edit: Oh yeah, the starforce thing; Hells f***ing yeah I'm buying splinter cell 3 the second they republish it and actually looking forward to installing Devil May Cry 3 and Resident Evil 4 PC now. last edited by Hashy at 13:43:55 14/Apr/06 |

Rev, wait until you start actually raiding with people instead of playing on your own. Having 20-30 other people with you can cause some havoc.

In my experience playing wow, it wasnt the latency that caused big issues but the fact that server stability was up the duff. Any lag you would come across would be server-wide and not due to you having 200ping compared to someone else having 40. Especially in zerg fest pvp.

lag makes a huge difference to a mage's dps in a raid, americans get a extra frostbolt every 4-5 of mine. Oh well glad i gave up that boring game.

Actually Hashy I only play Oblivion every few days and then only a couple of hours at a time. Since leaving WOW I havn't really played many time wasting games like that.

Would love to see Starforce die, simple because of their horribly patronising $10,000 challenge that could never be fulfilled. Dicks. "We dare you to screw up your computer for $10,000 but will actually make it impossible for you to do so." Fags.

I think I'm another victim of StarForce damage. My DVD drive has been acting flakey since I removed the StarForce drivers. I've never bought or pirated a StarForce game, but I installed one of the Trackmania demos not long before.
Now I can't read many discs, including brand new DVDs. They run fine in my other PC's DVD drive, and my regular DVD player. I get masses of errors trying to read files now, and there's no indication of dirt, spin imbalance, or any other hardware problem. I've worked with PC hardware professionally for years and this looks to me like some kind of firmware corruption. There certainly hasn't been any physical trauma to the drive. Has anyone done firmware comparisons before and after StarForce infection? |
