It looks like both fans of stopped on my trusty old Codegen 450w PSU.

As Nelly once said 'It's getting hot in here.'

Knowing nothing about PSU (except for what PSU stands for) any thing to look out for in purchasing a new Power System Unit?

It needs to operate currently (upgrades in the furture to I guess)

P4 2.4
2 IDE HD's
And just the usual other shizzle.

Something like those suitable? As in will it have all th right connectors etc for my system? I really don't wanna buy something and then not be able to take it back it's unsuitable.

Cheers.

I'm amazed your codegen has lasted longer than a week.

Get the Antec True Power if you value your components, which reminds me I have a 550 Watt here not being used :)

Do you wanna sell it?

And that Codegen is about 3 years old now.

Yeah it does still work.

Is it easy enough, and cost effective to do that?

well, IIRC the fans are soldered in the codegen 450w, so 2 fans and solder, so $12 for 2 fans, solder,

The brand name "codgen" is pretty much enough already to warrant an upgrade :)

Get something quality so your s*** actually lasts. Most people overlook the PSU but its a damn mighty important part of the system, without it ummm no turny ony...

Using an ultra crapo PSU you will reduce the life of all your components pretty much guaranteed, and if you are really unlucky when it finally kicks the bucket, it might decide to take the whole system with it.

I know I'd rather spend a little bit more on the PSU first time around than have to fork out for a whole new system. Don't bother trying to replace the fans, buy a new unit.

Hey! Codegen is Chinese for "The most awesome PC components known to man."

True.

But yeah I think I'll toss it. (the PSU that is)

And no one mentioned my gag :(
