Interesting article about the requirements to run Microsofts next OS, even people with cutting edge stuff might want to check this out...seems my 2gb of ram might not be enough for the hungry mother! Also there is an item of interest in there for those people who might be considering the 'bulk buy- Dell monitor ' thread as well.

your html code is broke Psyhco :)

Nice article, and i dont think anyone will go vista anyways not with TPM chiped motherboard, that kinda reminds me of intel's P3 Serial number to track what you do online.

I'll wait til MS get really upset no one is migrating to Vista, change the hardware needs of the OS, then I'll upgrade.

change the hardware needs of the OS
you make it sound like its a simple setting they can just change.. MS will not wipe 3 years of development because low end users have the willys with the min req's

i guess i wont be upgrading to vista when it comes out..besides i dont know about you guys but i have had second thoughts about it ever since i heard about there DRM implementatoin in vist and having to have a monitor with HDCP means everyone will have to upgrade there monitors..dont think many people are gonna be happy about that.

I've always wanted to get into linux, but have never really been motivated enough to go through with it. I think vista will be the motivation i need.

unless it gets hacked and i can use all my existing hardware, then i'll keep suckling from the teet of M$.

If you want to watch HDCP content, and if you did you would have to upgrade whatever you wanted to watch it on anyway.
Otherwise, normal monitors would work fine afaik.

fom the article....

Well, maybe you have a CRT or an analog LCD and don't intend to watch high-def content on your computer. You're not in the clear yet, because many of Vista's new security features will require a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on your motherboard. A few business-oriented prebuilt computers have TPMs, but practically none of the motherboards on sale for BYO configurations and practically none of the consumer-oriented prebuilts have TPMs. So you'll need a new motherboard too.

How many and what ones, and will i care as little about them as i do hdcp?

Dont get me wrong, i wont get vista the minute it comes out but probably with an upgrade down the track, at which time a lot of these things will be non-issues.

TPM got nothing to do with HDCP, that chip will techincally stop you from using copied os's / games / apps.. you name it.

Vista sounds great for media centre PCs, and anything where you want it to be all present-y. For anything useful though, it looks so unbelievably bloated. That said, Mac OSX is much the same way, hell, look at Expose. Yeah, it's useful, but at what cost - running the entire OS on OpenGL? ew.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." or "No one will need more than 637 kb of memory for a personal computer."

*shrug* not quite the same thing but oo pretty animated windows or somesuch.

I'm sure people thought the same about having the desktop run in more than 256 colors a few years back. I must admit I don't know what the performance hit would be like but I'd like to think my 800xt runs a bit better than my Voodoo1 did, how much grunt does rendering a desktop and a few twisty windows really going to take

Microsoft at least on the developer side are trying Vista for its security, and I must admit I'd be interested in giving it a shot since by default it runs with minimal permissions and you have to elevate your permissions on a per program basis so hopefully your web browser and whatever else doesn't become a gateway to viruses and spyware or what not.

ha ha, who am I kidding, it won't really change that much, I'll still take a look at it though.

How many people are running XP64? When did XP64 come out? Sounds like it will take at least twice as long for people to migrate to Vista.
