For thse of you who run an Xbox as a media centre:

How do you have the network set up? I am getting my fully worked XBox back today and have all the necessary software etc but what is the best way to configure hardware? I was hoping to plug a crossover cable from PC to XBox and click my fingers...is it that easy? Somehow I doubt it..

I have a hub but the power supply is rooted, and it will be a mission to run around and get a new one, but if it is easier to network I will do it. Time is of the essence as I want this thing up and running for Friday ie. the Easter weekend. I just want the simplest set up for now. If I can get the crossover cable to work, I will worry about setting up hub/second PC at a later date.

And no, I don't want to go out and buy a wireless router etc etc. If possible I would like to use the bits I have ie. XBox, PC and a 10m crossover cable.

kthx.

Well it's really quite simple:

You need to re-route the ISP to the DMA channel of the main-frame. Once you do that, and here is where you need some soldering skills, you need to split the cross over cable into four sections then solder them all back together. Don't ask why, just do it.

You need to connect the network cable into controller port 2, it probably won't fit at first, you need to force it.

After you have completed the above steps you need to rub the crystal ball (a bowling ball will do) and ask the gods and angels nicely for it to work. Remember to say please.

don't forget to rub your balls on the console before switching it back on for good luck and to exorcise the toilet fairy

Ahh yes thanks Mission. I was thinking I would have to reset the parameters on the I/O channel to match the output of the DMA before re-routing the ISP, but clearly all I really need to do is unplug the IDE controller port in order to disable the onboard batch process function, thus creating a looped SATA input and allowing power to the ion crystal in the flux capacitor.

Good advice too, from Wet. I will surely be rubbing my ample sack on all and sundry should this little LAN venture pay off. BTW I never knew your avatar was Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys until I got series 1-5 and watched them at a rate of 3-4 eps a night. If anyone hasn't seen this show please check it out. Along with Reno 911 and Family Guy it is a solid top three favourite.

Knock Knock. Who's there? f*** off.

Preacher: Can you read son?
Bubbles: That depends, can you go f*** yourself?
