The boss is looking for a decent GPS unit for hiscar.

ive been recommened one of these -- Navman iCN 520

Does anyone have any recomendations? ... or any i should stay away from?

tom tom 5 rocks hard

australian maps are a bit pricey though

pffft, go for the TOMTOM ONE, its newer its cheaper and you can see the screen better from side on.

and u can pull it out and use it walking around as it has a batery built in

Go get a tomtom. Thats what we have. Then just google for the red light cams and speed cams and upload them. Really easy to use.

Question about these: a taxi driver said the one he had could work in New Zealand if he took it there (or anywehre else in the world). I thought you needed to install whichever city you are in??

my mum has a tom tom. heh its pretty cool but my ubd is a bit more cost effective :)

Yeah, I have tomtom on my PPC in the car. It works well except for when its being very lame. Ie, It will try and get you to take an off ramp on the highway only to rejoin the highway via the next onramp. Just stay on the freakin highway tomtom !!

We just got the iCN520 at work today, $999 I believe somene said. We have a Mio 168 as well (which is exactly the same thing, with a slightly different case and different software) and a navman iCN320.

The Navman 520 seems to have reasonably old maps, they're marked as "2005 edition" but the mio seems pretty cool.

are there any gps' that don't have a built in battery?
